And just like that, it's no longer Monday... sorry, folks, but thems the breaks, right? Monday was pretty flat-out with work, and I was on dinner duty after that, and yesterday was no better! The great thing is that I finished one piece of complicated work yesterday - after having it on the go for well over a month (most of my work is 1-2 week jobs, and sometimes only a day)! You can see why I was thrilled to have it done AT LAST. I had begun to think it was never going to end! Anyway, today was supposed to be a nice bit of straight-forward work that I could finish in one day, but there was an unforeseen complication that I needed to get advice on... That has meant there is a bit of a work-around to be completed, which involves another area of my department, and I have to wait for them to do their bit before I can finish my bit, so that's dragging it out to tomorrow at least. Oh well, at least there's a solution that's doable!

And enough of my woes... how is YOUR week going? hopefully "work" (whatever it does or doesn't entail for you) has been productive, and you are getting WORDS in!

I have not done words yet again, though I did manage to make some icons a couple of weekends ago. They are lounging around, unposted, waiting for me to find time to do just that. BUT I will be counting them at least! And no, the count for April is not done yet *sigh*, but I will get to that, and another Original Fic post, soon! That, in case you missed it, is our current long challenge that runs to the end of May! Join us - we're all having fun thinking about original stories, if not actually writing any! ;-)

Big Buddies, you should be at the 22% mark of your monthly goal about now. How is that looking for you? Need any help or encouragement?

The Daily Count challengers need a mention - WOOHOO! You are all going great guns!

Your Flash Challenge for today is: "I could easily change my mind about you." courtesy of Carly Simon (10 points to anyone who can name the song!)

What else? Oh, prompts galore! Check back over the last week for ALL THE THINGS! You know by now what they are, right? All the daily words, the weekly challenges, the weekend challenge! Anything else I missed? Bound to be - so make free with our wonderful comm, and create from any and all of the prompts you like!

And that's me. I'm about to keel over, exhausted, so I think I'd better fall down before I fall down. *waves*

Here I am again, with another Monday on Tuesday (because I know some of you are still enjoying what's left of your Monday!).

The usual weekday posts have all happened, so either check out the tags or scroll back for the last week's worth of delightful prompts! Don't forget we are also but a few hours away from ending our current long challenge, Rare Pairs, so grab those last few ideas and make the muses work!

On the 16th, we start our new long challenge, which is Original Fic, hosted by none other than Yours Truly! Give me a shove if I haven't got something posted on the subject by Thursday!

Big Buddies, you should be at or close to the 50% mark of your goal by now! How are you doing? Let us know if you need some help - be it encouragement, helping paint you out of a corner, beta-reading, or just some general prompts! We are here for you! ;-)

Your Flash Challenge for today is: Balloons! Do with it as you will! Link anything you create here, if you're so inclined, so we can all see how you made our pile of words grow!

I love this time of year, as we get both Friday and Monday off work here, and then in NZ it's ANZAC Day on the 25th (like the Down-under version of Remembrance or Armistice Day), so that's two short weeks in a row, with only having to work for 3 days next week. Joy! I don't actually do anything exciting at Easter, as we are not particularly religious at my place, but we used to always do an egg-hunt, although as my youngest is 22 now, that kind of went out the window a few years back. If my grandson was in the same city, we'd probably spoil him rotten with too much chocolate, but he's not, and at 18 months old probably shouldn't be getting too much of the stuff anyway! We'll still get some choc eggs for the rest of us here though; why not?

ANZAC Day is a day of quiet reflection, and just hanging out with family; I don't go to any Dawn Parades (or later-in-the-day parades either!) any more, but I do enjoy the quietness of not working, and remembering both my grandads - my father's Dad who fought in WWI and Mum's Dad who was was in the military in WWII.

And with my extra days off, I am intending to finish the rework on my Hubby's favourite chair I that started a while back (the covering is all starting to come off and the seat wore out). The upholsterers wouldn't touch it (too 'cheap' to spend money on fixing apparently - so I figured I'd give it a go myself; it's not quite a full restoration, more like the best adaptation of one I could do myself), so hopefully it'll be useable for a few more years! Aside from that, I plan to pull out an Original Fic WiP to work on for the new long challenge, and maybe squeeze in some icons as well. Here's hoping!

How do you intend to be awesome this Easter week? Tell us in the comments!

And remember, let's be creative out there! ;-)
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
OK, so I am a failure this week, but I will get my act together soon! I promise! The dishwasher has been out of action for a month (one company 3x promised and 3x failed to show to fix it; I went elsewhere), but is (hopefully) fixed now (yes, I'm always skeptical till I actually run these things) - repair man came today and my son supervised (he is 22). Somehow that's my excuse for being slack... gulp, and it's my turn to cook dinner tonight and I have no idea what I'm cooking!!!! I do have some sliced (raw) chicken meat I can use, so just need to throw some things in with it and make some kind of passable meal, I suppose - HAHA! Alrighty, so you get from that how disorganised my week has been.

I throw a flash challenge at you now: Passable! Use it how you will and make words! *throws confetti and sprinkles and glitter in encouragement*

Big Buddies, you should be at about 19% of your monthly goal, so here's hoping!

I have to run for a train now, so please scroll back for all the things! Including our Rare Pairs Challenge, which is the current long challenge! DO IT! You know you want to!

Let's be creative out there! ;-)
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
So here we are, another week gone by already! I am writing this from the South Office of work on a nice Tuesday morning, although rain is threatening for later - I won't complain as we do need it! The last couple of years we've had plenty of rain, but 2025 is starting out a lot drier and you can tell - the grass everywhere is so brown! I just want it to end by Thursday as my family and I are off to the beach for a few days, so we'd like it to be sunny! I hope the weather is as you'd like it where you are.

How are you all doing, anyway? Our Big Buddies should be at around 39% of their goal for the month - I hope you're all there, or close to it! You still have plenty of time to make up the words, anyway. Our current Long Challenge is the WIP Push, so don't be afraid to dust off something old and start adding words (or stitches! ;-)). It'll be around till the end of Feb, so you still have a couple of weeks to participate. I'll hopefully get a new post up soon with a couple more prompts for anyone interested.

Daily Count challenge people are continuing apace! YOU GUYS ROCK! I love seeing how you're all doing, even if I don't comment!

If you need extra prompts, don't forget to scroll back over the last week's entries, or check out the tags for any of the regular items that you love! We have so many good prompts in amongst them all!

Now, your flash challenge for today is: Big & bright! I'm sure you know it's Chinese New Year (CNY) around this time of year, and we are just going into Year of the Snake - I work with a few people from China and others with Chinese ancestry, so we are being treated to a morning tea by them shortly, and I am so looking forward to all the yummy food! I chose today's flash challenge because if you know anything about CNY, there's one thing it will definitely be, and that is big and bright! You don't have to write about CNY unless you want, but I'm sure you can find a few words about the prompt, or maybe just make some pretty graphics! Link or post your fill in a comment so we can all enjoy! No word/graphic minimum or maximum!

if you haven't checked in on the recent posts with the new Long Challenge (LC) and Weekend Challenge (WC) schedules, please do so, especially if you are hosting, so you can be sure the dates I have given you will work! Even if you're not involved, the LC post will be of interest if any of the upcoming challenges look like ones you want to be involved with! You can mark them in your calendar a bit early so you can start to prep beforehand, if you want, or just so you know when they're kicking off to roll up your sleeves and get into them!

And I think that's all I have! Let's be creative out there! ;-)
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
So it's probably still Monday where most of you are, so I'll get this party started by telling you that the title of this post* is a couple of lyric lines from a very well-known (in NZ) song that was a smash hit here a million years ago, called "Outlook for Thursday" by DD Smash. The next line seems about right for Tuesday here: "With a wind that chills you to the bone" even though we're in the midst of summer! I believe we are getting La Niña weather pattern this summer, one of the effects of which is "More north-easterly winds blow towards New Zealand, bringing rain to the northeast of the North Island". The rain hasn't hit us too hard yet, but OH BOY, those north-easterly winds are in full gear! Anything loose outside is getting blown across the garden, and it's just not pleasant to be outside in it. *sigh*

I shouldn't complain because I know how tough things are in places like California with the wild fires destroying so much, and the bitter cold and snow in other parts of the USA, but it's hard not to be disappointed in summer here so far! Anyway, I hope everyone you know is safe and well, and that none of our members and friends here have lost anything or anyone to the vagaries of the weather or fires. *hugs*

And now to business! )
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
Yesterday (Monday) was Labour Day in NZ, so I had a glorious long weekend - the first public holiday since June, which in these parts symbolises spring finally starting to turn towards summer! I am so ready for it! And of course, Christmas is now less than two months away, which means there's things to do to be ready for a relaxing Christmas Day at our place! This year we're aiming to tidy up the patio and get a gazebo-cover type thing we can set up over the picnic table, as it inevitably rains on the big day, and if not, it'll be sunny out so we may need shade there, anyhow. So there's a bit to do before December!

Apart from all that, today being Tuesday already is a huge bonus! I'm already looking forward to Friday! What I do need to do is set up a post about the Advent Challenge, which will be upcoming. I know we have Swap of Joy getting under way, but this is separate and is not for a particular recipient, and posting occurs in the 24 days heading up to Christmas, whether or not you celebrate! OK, I will make that my mission for later today!

How are our Big Buddies doing? You should be at about 93% of your monthly goal by now. How is it looking?

There is plenty of inspiration in our usual posts - so scroll on back, or look out individual tags to see what rocks your boat! Our current long challenge is Bingo, which is always a ton of fun! And the cards look awesome! I may need to grab hold of a couple myself!

Your flash challenge this week is 'Don't sweat it!'. Drop and give me 100 or an icon! Post it in a comment or link it to this post, so we can all check it out and pat you on the back!

And October is almost over, so don't forget to update your numbers this week, or by the end of the weekend, so I can tell you all the good news on the count front! We are getting close to the wire now, and I would love us to beat last year's 4.2 MILL! Also, this means many of our writers here will be gearing up for NaNoWriMo! Good luck to all of you!

Stop by in a comment here and let me know how you're doing, no matter which of our challenges you are doing (or not!); I'd love to chat!

And let's be creative out there! ;-)
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
Hello, good morning and welcome! I am getting ahead for a change, although I am well aware that I have yet to do September's count, so that will be next! I wanted to do Monday's post while it was on my mind though, or I figured I'd forget.

So, what is it like on this Monday morning in NZ, you ask! Well, we jumped into Daylight Saving last weekend, so we have evenings with more light (YAY!), which has meant mornings are dark again for a bit, but the sun's now coming up just after 7am, so it's not too awful. Today is starting out with a typical spring Auckland day in that it's raining AGAIN! For those who wonder, Auckland (near the top of the North Island, Te Ika a Maui) gets about 1200mm of rain per year, which is about double the expected rainfall of Christchurch (also NZ, but in the South Island, Te Wai Pounamu), where my oldest daughter lives. On the other hand, it's much warmer here, so there are compensations! Today's expected high for Auckland is 18°C (64.4°F), which I see is also Christchurch's expected high, but our low overnight is looking to be about 13°C (55.4°F), while Christchurch will be around 8°C (46.4°F). And that's today's NZ climate lesson done! Feel free to tell me what autumn is looking like at your place (or spring if you happen to be in the Southern Hemisphere like me!). ;-)

So onwards! What are my goals this week? I have been very slack with words and graphics lately, though I was super-pleased when I managed to get icons made for every day of the last Long Challenge. I have done nothing for our current challenge, Give it a Whirl, but maybe I will try to look at it before it ends on the 15th... how about you?

All the usual weekly posts are there for the picking over too, if the Long Challenge doesn't float your boat! Just scroll right back to last Monday's post, or check out the tags of the challenges that you find tempting!

All our Big Buddies should be looking at about 22% of their monthly goal around now. How is that going, everyone? Need a hand or just some cheering on? We are here for you!

Our daily challengers are doing fantastically too! Let's give them all a hand for their hard work! Keep it up, people; you are all stars!

Your flash challenge for today is: Whatever happened to...? Drop and give us at least 100 words or a spectacular graphic, and we'll fete you for days! ;-)

And I think that's it? Did I miss anything? Have a great week, everyone, so matter when it starts for you! And let's be creative out there! ;-)
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
Yes, it is actually Tuesday here again, but most of you should still be in Monday, with luck!

I had a bit of a crazy start to my day today - went to get some cold meat out of the fridge to make lunch to take to the office, and two cans of soda at the back decided to drop down a row (the fridge was packed as shopping was yesterday) when the container I was pulling out dragged the shelf out a bit. Not much in that, but then suddenly I have coke fizzing all over the inside back of my fridge! Unloaded the shelf to pull it out and dump in the sink, when I realise a can of Sprite has followed suit, so I grabbed it to chuck in the sink too, but it lands with the hole facing upward and next thing I have a fountain of Sprite pi$$ing all over my kitchen! It took me an hour to clean it all up and replace everything back in the fridge, plus I was covered in Sprite droplets too... I made the instant decision not to go into the office, but to work from home instead, as I needed to clean myself as well, and my commute time was GONE. Nor had I even made lunch... *sigh*

Anyway, aside from that, the week's been going OK. Yesterday I made the rest of the icons I had hoped to do for the Drabble/Icon challenge, which finished on Saturday! WOOT! I didn't get time to post them last night but hopefully will do so tonight or tomorrow. I hope those of you participating enjoyed all of Angel's great prompts, and managed to complete what you hoped to do! Everyone else, I hope you enjoyed the fills!

Now, technically the new challenge from Sept 1st is Give it a Whirl, run by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] flipflop_diva, and ably assisted by [livejournal.com profile] kitmerlot1213, but as I forgot who was on and therefore didn't remind them (to be fair, I was away from home last week!), I take all the blame for things not getting underway yet. If either of you two wonderful people are watching, please talk together and kick us off when you're ready! If you or anyone else wants to know how this challenge works, check out this entry from the last time we did it! Sorry I didn't get onto this reminder earlier, my dear hosts, and that this is a post-reminder rather than a message! No blame, no foul, to either of you!

Let's see, what else have we got? All the usual daily and weekly things have been happening, so check out the tags or scroll back to see all the wonderful prompts that have been left for you by our regular contributors. SHOUT OUT to all of you! I LOVE EVERYONE IN THIS BAR!!!

Big Buddies, it's early days, but you're looking at something like 10% of your monthly goal in the next 24 hours. You have PLENTY of time to make it up if you're behind. If not, GO, YOU! YOU ARE AWESOME!

Your flash challenge for this week is: THAT was unexpected! Go forth, write or otherwise create something wonderful with that; link us so we can all congratulate you on adding words!!! YAYAYAYAYAYAY!

Finally, I will just say PLEASE UPDATE YOUR NUMBERS if you haven't already! You have a few extra days to do this, as I don't think I will get to counting until the weekend. I am very excited to see how we're doing now we are down to the last quarter of 2024, so be sure to get your counts up to date so you'll be counted! WOOT!

Now, let's be creative out there! ;-)

Howdy from my little home office, where it is Sunday night and I'm aiming to be ahead of at least one thing this week: The Monday post! The rest of the week will have to sort itself out as I go, lol. I'm looking at you, work deadlines.

I hope wherever you're spending this day, it treats you well and that you have some time and space to yourself for creativity. I have the weekend challenge prompts to mull over, and will be selecting some Drabble/icon challenge prompts as well.

Our FLASH challenge prompt for your Monday is: "I've made a huge mistake."

These next few months tend to be good for our comm, tally-wise. Let's see if we can wrap up the year with a whole of words, graphics, and artwork!

What plans do you have for challenges? For NaNo, maybe? There's a big bang I may take part in, if my fall lines up well. I don't want to commit until I feel sure but it certainly would make a difference in my time spent writing this year! We shall see.

Let us know how your week is looking, and fall or spring as well!

... it must be Monday!

And here we go folks! I've been swamped at work and unfortunately it shows in my attention here. I am so very sorry for that.

Big Buddy - We should all be at 93% of our month today? How are we doing? You've got two more days to cram all those words in!!

Speaking of which - UPDATE YOUR NUMBERS! The month ends soon! Let's count up how awesome we are!!

We are currently in the midst of Drabble/Icon Challenge. Go take a peek at all the excellent prompts that the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] angelus2hot has been leaving us!

If that's not enough for you there are WotD, Letters, and Numbers prompts. Or just thumb through old Weekend Challenges. You'll find tons of creative inspiration.

And your Flash Challenge is - EARWORM. Go forth and make something good come of that!!

Seriously just one line!!!
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
I am writing this from Monday morning at my Home Office desk; I've scheduled it for tonight because for most of you it's still Sunday! We like to get ahead of things here in NZ (yeah, right! LOL!) Anyway, thought I'd better do it while I was thinking about it, or later I'd forget (story of my life).

Speaking of which, if anyone knows where I put that one Peter Pan handwarmer (I lost the other one at the airport in May), I could use it about now, as I'm currently wearing a wrist-wrap on my right hand because every now and then it's been giving me problems, and then it will be OK, so before I waste untold $$ going to the doctor's for it where he's likely to say 'Use a wrist-wrap for a while; see if that helps', I thought I would try the $20 option. If it doesn't help after a week or so, I will bite the bullet and pay the $$. It's cool over here now, since we are mid-winter while most of you are enjoying (far too much?) heat on the northern side of the planet, and I need to keep my hands warm when temps are down as purple doesn't suit me. Who knew one handwarmer would be useful - wherever I hid it from myself must be a good hiding place... and I know I didn't throw it out because I determined I would make one to match at some point, as I'm like that. ;-)

Right, enough banter about my idiocy! What's new on your writing horizon? Anything fun you'd like to share? I have not written for months, but that's hardly news! I am WAY behind on the monthly count - the last month I counted was March!!! I need to get that fixed, but will probably wait until July ends and do the month-by-month thing then. Make sure you update your figures between now and early August to be counted! I'm excited to find out how we're doing!

Now, our current Long Challenge is a WIP Push (Thanks for hosting, [livejournal.com profile] simplyn2deep, you did an awesome job!), but that's about to finish, so I hope you are well onto your goal with that one, if you took part! You still have time to get a few more words in before it ends, right? The next one up is a Drabble/Icon challenge, and I happen to know that [livejournal.com profile] angelus2hot has got a lot of awesome posts lined up! Jump on in; I will try to do so myself, since I've missed the last couple of challenges.

Big Buddies, you should all be at around the 48% mark on your goals, so I hope you're there or above! If not, how can we help you add words? Let us know!

Daily challengers - you guys are stars! You are doing so well! Keep up the good work!

Flash Challenge: No cheering from the crowd. Use it how you will! If you have the time, link us to any creation you get from it, so we can all tell you how fabulous you are!

And don't forget to scroll back over the last week, or check out the tags for any of our regular challenges, to pick up any prompts you missed, and use them to ADD WORDS!!! I know you want to!

That's it from me; have a great Monday, and may the rest of your week have you adding words like there's no tomorrow! Let's be creative out there! ;-)

Tuesday!!!

WOOHOO!!! It's Tuesday!!!

Okay folks, how are you all doing with your week so far? Have you written all the words? Do you have plans for some involved graphics, maybe a drabble collection, or are you finishing up that WIP?

We have fewer than 2 weeks left on our long WIP challenge. Do you need some inspiration? Do you need some help? Do you need a beta reader? What can we do to help?

Big Buddy should be at about 7% today. Do you all have your countables started?

Flash Challenge - "New Car Smell" - Give me some words or a graphic!

Go check out the excellent words of the day! And also the A to Z challenge restarted this week. Go forth and be inspired.

HAPPY JULY TO EVERYONE!!!

You know. *sigh some more*

At the start of January the day I process payroll on changed from Wednesday to Monday, and I just can't get the swing of Monday's anymore.

Anyway, let's start things off with a HUGE THANK YOU to [livejournal.com profile] flipflop_diva for hosting an amazing Songfic Challenge! Go back and browse through the excellent prompts and get inspired while you show her some appreciation.

Our WIP Challenge has begun! Head over and see what a newly refreshed from vacation [livejournal.com profile] simplyn2deep has in store for us through mid-July!

Bid buddy has started up again and you should be at 16% today. How are you all doing?

Your Flash Challenge for today is "That's not chicken!" or "That's not a chicken!" Do with it as you will! Fic, pic, giggle. Whatever works!

Happy not really Monday to you all!!!
[identity profile] kaige68.livejournal.com
Well hello there! Welcome to Monday.

Today, LJ tells me, is my 19th anniversary on LJ. As you may or may not know, it was Fanfic that brought me here. So 19 years of fanfic, that is something. Not that I was writing it, but I could not get enough of LotR RPS, and I found a home here. And now, the home has evolved, and I've really found my peeps. THANK YOU MY PEEPS! I really do love everyone here! You are awesome!! Another 19 years?

Big Buddy folks should be around 65% today. How are you doing? Do you need a push? How can we help?

Scramble around and take a look at some of the outstanding words of the day, numbers, letters, weekend challenges. THERE ARE SO MANY IDEAS FOR MAKING CREATIVE THINGS!!!

Speaking of which, [livejournal.com profile] flipflop_diva has been posting excellent ideas for Songfic challenge. Go take a look, sing along, make some pics and fics!!! Maybe even some hobbity fic, or people reading hobbity fic, or something about where David Wenham went.

Your flash challenge is: "Close only counts in horseshoes and handgrenades. 19 is 19, not almost 20."

And now I have to go back to work. What are you all up to this week?
[identity profile] kaige68.livejournal.com
Okay, so I completely missed posting last week. UGH. Sorry.

I know, I'm always late, I'm always sorry, and you are probably tired of hearing it. But I DO LOVE EVERYBODY IN THIS BAR! And I wish I could get my things together for you. Anyway...

Big Buddy: You should be 97% through your count for the month. How are you doing?

[livejournal.com profile] flipflop_diva is doing an awesome job on the Songfic challenge. Do you have something in the works? Do you need more inspiration?

The month ends tomorrow so remember to update your numbers! We are going to hit a million this month I KNOW IT!

Flash Challenge: I watched Mr Mom over the weekend so - "But pretty soon, a woobie isn't enough."

And now I've got to go back to work! Go scroll through for more prompts. Tell the folks who've been doing the daily count challenge how inspiring they are, and enjoy your week!!!
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
Yes, it's a miracle! I am here and it's only Monday! ;-) (We won't say anything about how this is a pre-scheduled post!)

How is your week ahead looking? Mine is looking LOOONG since I just had two very short weeks over Easter, but I will get through it!

I need to work more on editing my original fic, so I can say I have achieved something for the Original fic Challenge before it ends on the 15th! I'll be doing a round-up/rewards post after it ends, so watch out for that! There will be a new challenge starting on the 16th, so keep your eyes peeled next week!

All the usual prompts and entries have been happening over the past week, so scroll back or check the tags if you're in need of any help with making words this week!

Big Buddy participants, you should be around the 27% mark of your goal for April, so I hope you're there, or close to it! And I hope our Daily Count Challenge peeps are also making their days (and words) count!

Your Flash Challenge for today is: Don't take my word for it! Get writing! A hundred words or more will get you my undying gratitude for adding to our count, and you can pat yourself on the back for a job well done!

What else do we have? I know there's a group of wonderful people from the comm out and about taking in the solar eclipse that will be viewable in locations around the eastern coast of the USA (and others) at some point this week, and I wish you all a wonderful view, as well as a terrific time together! I know you will have a great time; I only wish I could join you! Next time, maybe!

Other than that, it's time to get moving; let's get creative out there, folks!
