Hey everyone! Here we are on our second Monday of 2024 already! I hope it's going well for you so far. I am working from home all of this week while they do electrical work on our office building, so I am VERY happy, and next week I'm off on holiday! I fly to Christchurch next Sunday to spend a couple of days visiting my two kids and grandson living down there, so that makes me happy! I am driving home again with my son, who is coming back to load up his car with all the things he couldn't fly down there when he moved, and then his father makes the return journey with him driving down via a slightly different route, visits the family, and flies home. Sweet! LF (my son) and I will travel northward slowly over 3 nights and 4 days, visiting my sister for one of the nights (the others in motels) and I am looking forward to it, although hopefully the heat won't be oppressive and my son's car's aircon will work! LOL ;-)

As for this week, bleh, I'll get through some work and try to find time to take down the rest of the Xmas decorations and thank people for the gifts and cards they sent! How is your week shaping up? I hope you get some writing done! I don't have any planned, but I did manage to make 100 icons for the 100-in-100 prompts that K put up at the end of last year. Unfortunately I didn't make them in time for 2023, but I'm using them as my January contributions to the count for this year! I posted 50 of them on my LJ and hope to get the other 50 up before I go away, and get the 2024 count posts up so I can add them in there!

I know I also need to do the final 2023 count (so rush in now to add yours if you haven't already!) and let you all know how we did! In addition, I'm trying to get a volunteer to run our first long challenge for 2024, so if you haven't voted in the poll, nor read the post about the challenges, please go do so NOW! I need to get this one going, STAT! I'm not sure I can get anything up and running before I go away, and we usually start on the 15th Jan, so if you think you can help, I would be very grateful!

So, there are the usual weekly and other regular posts up for the last week; please go and check them out for inspiration! Your flash challenge for this week is: Don't cross swords with me! Give us at least 100 words on that subject and then pat yourself on the back for adding to the count!

Big Buddy peeps, you should be at around 25% of your monthly goal! How's it going? Need help or inspiration? Just ask! We're here for you! And I hope all the daily challengers are going OK too!

I think that's about it for now! Have a great week, everyone! ;-)

Hi everyone, how's your week been? I have been having issues keeping up with everything, yet again, although I have managed to do some things I wasn't expecting to do (and they were useful), but writing has been getting away with me, and so has my reply to comments, so please forgive me for being slow to answer any of your comments here at the comm, and for being tardy in getting rewards completed for last weekend's challenge!

Anyway, it's time for comment fic!

So, today is New Zealand's national holiday, called Waitangi Day (pronounced why-tongue-ee). This is in commemoration of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi (Te Tiriti o Waitangi), which was signed between the Queen's representatives and the Maori chiefs of Aotearoa (NZ) in 1840. For more information on this, you can go here. We have a public holiday on this day, but we don't seem to celebrate it with the same kind of fanfare as - for instance - America's Independence Day. There is still a lot of controversy over what the Treaty meant and that, along with many other things, means that for most of us, it's just a day off that we enjoy being at home with family.

Anyway, in the spirit of treaties in general, today's comment fic prompt is:

deals or agreements

Go forth and create ficlets! Anything is allowed as long as it fits into a comment (or two) and is inspired by the prompt! Have fun! (and yes, I will get to those rewards this weekend, as well as aim to reply to comments!). ;-)

Hanukkah is upon us!

I will admit to being exceptionally uneducated about the holiday, a lot of my knowledge comes from the Rugrats: The Meanie of Chanukah, so... yeah, there's that. However, I do think that I can pull together a challenge with eight prompts!

Oil
Candles
Faith
Eight days
Re-dedication
Light
Latkes
Perseverance

Give us a new graphic or a fic featuring any/or all of these prompts!

It's the fourth of July here in my country (well, it's not like other countries skip it), and I was watching season 2 of Teen Wolf the other day and it made me think of this challenge. So here we have it!

Inspiring movie speeches!

Give us a new graphic or a fic featuring a character belting out a movie speech (or reasonable facsimile there of) to inspire others. Maybe it's Independence Day, or Braveheart. Lord of the Rings or Casual Sex! Give us a speech! Drive your characters on to bigger things!

It's a bit of a celebratory day in the U.S. of A so, let's celebrate:

Flag Day

It's a day to celebrate the adoption of the American flag by Congress (2nd continental congress to be exact). And it's the birthday of our army as well. But I recognize that we are not all American here at [livejournal.com profile] 1_million_words, and you recognize that I'll take any reason I can to get words made so your prompt today is:

Let your freak flag fly!
or
Pride!

Give us a new graphic or a fic featuring a character owning what makes them special or something they take pride in!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to pop in and apologise for not answering all the wonderful comments to my Easter post, except one quick one just now about Cadbury's Creme Eggs, as I wanted to know something about that. The rest though, I did see and I found it really interesting reading all about the different hings you have done or do for Easter, and how different or similar they are for me! At this point, though, I'm a little overwhelmed with one thing and another and as it's gone by in such a rush and is now nearly two weeks ago, it all seems a bit pointless to start making long replies (which is what I'd do, knowing me). So again, sorry for not replying when it was relevant, and also, though maybe no one noticed, I was supposed to post something for ANZAC day... and yes, I forgot that too. Maybe next year... SORRY!

Supposedly spring is here I had my heat on this week so I can't tell So let's celebrate:

May Day

Things are turning green in my half of the world, not so much [livejournal.com profile] haldoor's. So this time we'll have two prompts:

Everything's coming up roses!
~and~
May Day! May Day!

Give us a new graphic or a fic featuring either of these prompts, or where ever these prompts will take you.

It's not a holiday for everyone, but today is:

Patriots' Day

While it's generally only celebrated in a few states in the U.S., it is the commemoration of the battles at Lexington and Concord and is a good reason for a challenge, right? Your prompt will be:

You do what you need to do

Give me a new graphic or a fic featuring someone who is doing what they need to do. Or maybe it's an ultimatum. Or even getting a chore done before they can do what they want to do. Do this, and you'll get a drabble back at you. ;)

For some, this is a deeply religious time of the year, and the main celebrations occur on Easter Sunday.

For others of us, who are not so religious, Easter is all about chocolate and/or bunnies! and they can pretty much take up all weekend. ;-)

Here in New Zealand... )

What special things do you and your family/friends like to do for Easter? Do you do any special religious-related things? What's your favourite kind of chocolate, or special Easter food to eat?

I shall finish with some Creme Eggs for you all today, and offer up a prompt for anyone wanting to write something with an Easter theme:

How do you eat your creme eggs?
