Here I am again, with another Monday on Tuesday (because I know some of you are still enjoying what's left of your Monday!).
The usual weekday posts have all happened, so either check out the tags or scroll back for the last week's worth of delightful prompts! Don't forget we are also but a few hours away from ending our current long challenge, Rare Pairs, so grab those last few ideas and make the muses work!
On the 16th, we start our new long challenge, which is Original Fic, hosted by none other than Yours Truly! Give me a shove if I haven't got something posted on the subject by Thursday!
Big Buddies, you should be at or close to the 50% mark of your goal by now! How are you doing? Let us know if you need some help - be it encouragement, helping paint you out of a corner, beta-reading, or just some general prompts! We are here for you! ;-)
Your Flash Challenge for today is: Balloons! Do with it as you will! Link anything you create here, if you're so inclined, so we can all see how you made our pile of words grow!
I love this time of year, as we get both Friday and Monday off work here, and then in NZ it's ANZAC Day on the 25th (like the Down-under version of Remembrance or Armistice Day), so that's two short weeks in a row, with only having to work for 3 days next week. Joy! I don't actually do anything exciting at Easter, as we are not particularly religious at my place, but we used to always do an egg-hunt, although as my youngest is 22 now, that kind of went out the window a few years back. If my grandson was in the same city, we'd probably spoil him rotten with too much chocolate, but he's not, and at 18 months old probably shouldn't be getting too much of the stuff anyway! We'll still get some choc eggs for the rest of us here though; why not?
ANZAC Day is a day of quiet reflection, and just hanging out with family; I don't go to any Dawn Parades (or later-in-the-day parades either!) any more, but I do enjoy the quietness of not working, and remembering both my grandads - my father's Dad who fought in WWI and Mum's Dad who was was in the military in WWII.
And with my extra days off, I am intending to finish the rework on my Hubby's favourite chair I that started a while back (the covering is all starting to come off and the seat wore out). The upholsterers wouldn't touch it (too 'cheap' to spend money on fixing apparently - so I figured I'd give it a go myself; it's not quite a full restoration, more like the best adaptation of one I could do myself), so hopefully it'll be useable for a few more years! Aside from that, I plan to pull out an Original Fic WiP to work on for the new long challenge, and maybe squeeze in some icons as well. Here's hoping!
How do you intend to be awesome this Easter week? Tell us in the comments!
And remember, let's be creative out there! ;-)

Date: 2025-04-15 03:53 am (UTC)I'm also outside as much as possible, now that it's a touch warmer. I've been blowing right through some spring cleanup and landscaping tasks. And I'm topping off garden bins and planting lettuce, spinach, scallions and some bok choy.
And I'm knitting- but just something to occupy my hands while watching TV.
Now that the class is about to wrap up, and the yard is in much better shape, I should have much more time for writing. And for the weekend challenge. And getting ready for the mid-June through July challenge! Woot!
Oh, and I have been walking at least 4 miles a day, and today hit 7.8!
I guess that's enough!

Date: 2025-04-15 09:01 pm (UTC)Oh nice, love that you have two short weeks in a row! Those kinds of holidays are nice for reflection and gratitude.
And we're not big on Easter here, either, but it's still fun. I bought the older child a bottle of wine and two glasses handmade from recycled glass for her basket this year. The younger child I still need to find some things for. Oops. LOL
Love that you're willing to tackle the chair yourself! Hope that it comes out great.
Not a whole lot planned for this week. Just work and watching the plants. I have fat tomatoes and some strawberries and I am perched waiting for them to ripen. LOL
I probably ought to get back to work now. :D

Date: 2025-04-16 03:33 am (UTC)Two short weeks are so very wonderful! I am looking forward to some quiet time at home, especially since it's supposed to be hurricane winds and massive bucket loads of rain from tomorrow onwards!!!
Nice - some more 'adult' presents for Easter - mine will just get chocolate, but I'm pretty sure they'll still love it!
I found an awesome video about repairing outdoor chairs with paracord and thought that was exactly what I needed for the seat on the chair - and that part is done (worked a treat!) so I just need to finish the cushion to go on it, and figure out something about recovering the rest in a simple way (I have ideas!) so hopefully it will work! I'll post photos when I'm done!
LOL to waiting for the fruit. YUM! I was you before Christmas (minus the tomatoes!). ;-)

Date: 2025-04-17 08:24 pm (UTC)It's windy here today, but not hurricane force windy! Hopefully it isn't as bad as being predicted. Although, I'd love a good rainstorm right now.
With one kid being vegan, it's really hard to find chocolate for her. But, Hershey now makes plant based Hershey bars and Reese's peanut butter cups, and she enjoys them! The other kid loves sour gummy candies, so that's what she gets. LOL
That's fantastic! Can't wait to see the pics!
I really want a blackberry bush, but I'm not sure how one would grow in this heat. But the strawberries are getting big! And starting to turn pink! Hahaha. I love tomatoes, but they're one of the things I can understand why someone might not like.

Date: 2025-04-18 10:06 pm (UTC)We've had most of the wind now, and that was pretty ferocious, but we didn't have any damage thankfully. Battened down the hatches well! Apart from 2 small rabbits having their enclosure blown slightly off the pallets it sits on so they got out into the yard (luckily they couldn't go any further), no issues. That enclosure will be tied to the pallet before long, but we've had a lot of rain since so it wasn't practical to do it. Last night the thunderstorms and heavy rain came... more are due today, but it's eased off at the moment. The worst thing for us has been the unseasonal humidity. Just when things were cooling down and we were getting used to wearing more, suddenly it was hot and heavy!
Glad you've been able to find good Easter things for the girls!
I do like tomatoes, but so does the dog, so we didn't have any growing last season as he ate most of them the year before - straight off the vine! He loves strawberries too, but we had them in a raised bed and it was covered to keep the birds off, so he couldn't get them! We need to figure out something better for tomatoes before we try growing them again!
As for blackberries, there was a bush here when we arrived, so some years we've had a crop, but it's tricky as it's on the retaining wall and puts out long creeping tendrils which fall down the wall behind the house and they are prickly! We only have a narrow alley back there so my hubby sometimes cuts it back so we don't hurt ourselves. They're pretty invasive too, if you don't cut them back after they fruit every year, but are hardy as hell and will keep coming back, and they spread easily too. They love the sun and our humidity - they would probably cope with your heat as long as they got enough water.

Date: 2025-04-21 09:18 pm (UTC)Thanks! They're pretty easy (usually).
That's hilarious! When Sunny was little, she'd steal my roma tomatoes, carry them into the living room, and then just BITE BITE BITE. Not eat them, just puncture them with her teeth.
I knew blackberry brambles were prickly, but had no idea about the rest. My back yard gets full sun all day long so I'd have to figure out where to hide it. LOL They are my favorite berry!

Date: 2025-04-16 04:03 am (UTC)Once that book is out the door, it'll be on to the first rewrite of last year's NaNo project (very said to say the last NaNo project...:( ) But I'll still be turning to plotting in sept/october and then writing in November. My own personal NaNo. It has been my pattern for so many years now I don't want to break it and get out of the habit.

Date: 2025-04-17 04:09 am (UTC)That all sounds fairly good to hear!
I'm not sure I understand what the difference is between the NaNo project and your own personal NaNo, but good luck with it all! ;-)

Date: 2025-04-17 04:39 am (UTC)There won't be another NaNo this year unless some other group or entity picks up the practice and runs with it or generates something new.
The news came out on April 1st.
Thankfully, I've gotten into the habit of 50k months, so I can do it without the fanfare of the event, but it won't quite be the same.

Date: 2025-04-17 06:57 am (UTC)Ah! I get it now. I did mini-wrimo a couple of times here on LJ, so I can totally get your sadness. November is a busy time of year for me though so I never tried the full Nano. I'm glad you can keep doing your own thing though.

Date: 2025-04-17 02:16 pm (UTC)Really hoping that some smaller, local groups create something similar for the camaraderie and mutual encouragement and assistance.
Thankfully I have all of you guys :)
