YEAR END 2024!

And the numbers are...

Keep scrolling!

Under here to see all of the months' progress as we go along! )

YOU GUYS: WE DID 4.2 MILLION WORDS!!! WOOHOO!

We actually outdid last year by 12K, which is not a lot, but considering I wasn't able to email everyone to remind them, it's PRETTY DAMN GOOD!!

You have all made this comm such a rewarding place to be, and even though I haven't made as many contributions as I would have liked for 2024, I am still very proud of myself and of all of you! YOU have all done such a great job in 2024, which was our TWELFTH YEAR of the comm. Here's to our 13th, and all that 2025 brings! THANK YOU! ;-)
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
Finally, I have got the schedule together for the Long Challenges for 2024!

[livejournal.com profile] skargasm has done a wonderful job with our first one, Crossovers, which is due to end this week, and I am getting on board with the next one, due to start on Friday, which will be Original fic! Amy, I hope I can count on you to be there if I'm a bit slow with comments! I know this one's in your wheelhouse! I will spend the next wee while sorting out how that's going to run, and the first post will go up on the 1st March!

Here is the fukk schedule for 2024! )
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
The final votes are in! The tie is broken! Our two last challenges in 2024 will be Songfic and Original fic.

Here is the full list in order of popularity:

1. Bingo
2. WIP Push
3. Drabble/Icon
4. Give it a Whirl
5. Crossovers
6. Songfic
7. Original fic

This is not the order they will be run over the year. At this point, our first challenge for the year is Crossovers, which starts on Monday 15 Jan and runs till 29 Feb, hosted by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] skargasm! Watch out for those posts!

For the rest, I will work out a schedule and post that soon. We have some volunteers, but if you think you'd like to either run or help run a challenge and you haven't already commented to that effect in the challenge poll post here, please go read the bit about running the challenges and the dates, and add your comment to that post.

I am heading away on a road trip with my son today and won't be home till Friday, so you have a week to let me know, and I will hopefully get both the weekend challenge and the long challenge schedules done up shortly after that.

Have a great week everyone, and thanks again to those that voted!

Lets get creative out there! ;-)
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
Hey everyone, another week goes by! Hope you are all doing well, and are ready for another great week! I am hoping for less rain, and more things accomplished this week, including making a 21st birthday card for my son (my baby is nearly 21; how did that happen?) who has his birthday next week. Then I have to think about what to give him... so that'll take some thinking!

I am so sorry, I still haven't done the latest count, and I have no real excuses except laziness. I promise to get that done shortly. Honestly, if I haven't done it by next Monday, someone come over and slap me?

We have our current long challenge, Bingo, wrapping up this weekend, so get those fills done and posted on or before Saturday, and get ready for our next long challenge, which is Three Sentence Fic! Dreamy's done a fabulous job with Bingo, and I know Kit has some marvellous stuff lined up for us with 3Sent, so don't be afraid to dip in!

Big Buddy folks, you should be at around 35% of your monthly goal! How are you doing? Getting near? Way ahead? Need any help or encouragement? That's what we're here for! Comment and/or ask away!

Check back through last week's entries - or check out the tags - for all those great prompts that have appeared during this time! Thanks again to all our regular contributors for all your hard work. We probably don't say often enough how much we appreciate all of you! Shout out this week to [livejournal.com profile] simplyn2deep, who puts up our Word of the Day entries, day in, day out, without any fuss. You are wonderful, Liz, and we wouldn't be half the comm we are without you!

Now, what else have I forgotten? Oh, a flash challenge! Anyone feel like dropping and giving us 100 (or so)? Here is your prompt: Not another meeting! If you manage anything over 100 words or an icon for this, pat yourself on the back! You have my undying love for adding more words to our count!

Now, let's get creative out there! ;-)
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
YES! Something is going right for me! Last time K asked me to do this, I actually managed to get it done on time, and OMG, here I am again! There must be something in the water...

So, how are you all doing? I am sick, sick, sick of work, but otherwise healthy (we won't mention allergies). I still haven't actually written anything fictiony this year, but as luck would have it, I pulled out my graphics brain in September and made all of THREE icons! Woot, go me. HA! Compare to the wonderfulness that is [livejournal.com profile] severina2001 and [livejournal.com profile] itsanonyx, who both gave us incredible graphics numbers this month, that is positively slack, but for me, it's amazeballs!

And if you are Big Buddying, you have just kicked off into October so the percentage to aim for is around 9% of your monthly total. How are you doing? Hitting the mark or still need a kick to get you there? You still have plenty of time to catch up, anyway! Hit the previous posts for more prompts if you need 'em!

Speaking of prompts, I am far too lazy these days to find you links, so get scrolling, or find the appropriate tabs to see the Word of the Day, Numbers, A-Z, Weekend Challenge, our current long challenge Crossovers, or any other of our wonderful regular posts to find some cool and groovy prompts to inspire your Muse, if you need 'em!

Your Flash Challenge for today is: Flying high! Whether that's high on drugs because your character has been kidnapped or had their drink spiked for evil purposes and is about to take drastic measures to escape, or they're a pilot who has just avoided a crash landing, or maybe your character has just joined the mile-high club, or is just sitting down to their favourite movie, Top Gun (substitute as needed!), then come on! We want to hear that story! One hundred words or a thousand, we want to see it! Or maybe it's graphically inspiring to you in some way? Pat yourself on the back if you make it and share it with me or the wide world!

What's left? Oh, what will you do this week to make more awesomeness in your life, and coincidentally, more words for us here at 1MW? I cannot say, at this point, that I have great plans to make words, but I do have some Christmas gifts to continue crocheting, so here's hoping I can get those numbers up where I want them, and also get to make more of my Christmas cards! It's only 12 weeks till the 25th Dec, so it's time to get moving on them!

And before I forget, let's remember to thank each other for our awesomeness! THANK YOU, each and every one of our members, as without you, we'd be nothing! *hugs*

Have a great week, everyone! ;-)

Thank You!

Hi, everyone! Happy Holidays! I just wanted to say thank you all for all the prompts and encouragement you guys have given me this month.  I can't believe I only have 7 days left of my rare pair trope a day Merry Trope-mas challenge, and even more than that, that I've actually managed to write something EVERY DAY. I've never managed that before and I owe a lot of that motivation to all of you.  I've tried out a lot of new pairs thanks to all your suggestions too and found that I really like some of them. So thank you all! Hope you all have a happy and safe holiday weekend full of health, love, and happiness (and tolerable weather lol).
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
Hey everyone! We're thinking about getting organised for 2020, and would like your thoughts on what content we should have here at the comm. I've put together a poll, so if you can fill it out by midnight Friday 27th Dec PST, that would help us a lot. And if you have any comments to make or questions to ask about anything at the comm, please do so here! We want your input!

Poll under here! )

K and I would also like to thank all of you who have been involved with the comm this year; we really appreciate you hanging out with us and making this such a great place to be. We wish you all the best over the festive season too! ;-)

PS: I've emailed everyone who is a member of the comm to remind you to fill out the poll, but I missed copying the link here, and have had issues trying to send another group email, so apologies for that.
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
Hey everyone, how's it going? First off tonight, I want to say we're sorry that we have not got things off the ground as well as we would have liked this year - [livejournal.com profile] kaige68 has been sick, and then work's been crazy for her so she tells me to apologise on her behalf for not being on the ball right now - and I also want to apologise for me! I don't have her excuses and have in fact been on holiday recently so should have had more time, but somehow things have got away on me. I'll also apologise in advance if I end up a bit distracted over the next few months, but my family and I are looking at selling our house and buying another, so there may be a lot of stuff going on.

Despite all this, we are still very determined to keep the comm going and help inspire you to more words! I know we couldn't do it without all your help either, which we very much appreciate. Thank you to all of you who put up your hands in the post I made a while ago asking for volunteers and ideas for this year. I'm sorry I haven't directly answered any of your comments there, but K and I were planning to work through things together, and that just hasn't happened yet. So it's not too late to volunteer, either, so please follow the link and leave a comment if you want to help and haven't yet let us know! I still won't reply on that post at this point, but I am in the process of writing an email to the people concerned with the monthly challenges, and we will gradually work on the rest as we can!

Meanwhile, I have the Daily Count Challenge assignments for the rest of January! If your day doesn't work, please feel free to do it on another day along with whoever is assigned, and would the person assigned please pass it on when you're done, as per previous DCCs!

Here are your dates:

26th: [livejournal.com profile] craterdweller
27th: [livejournal.com profile] dracosdreamer
28th: [livejournal.com profile] thtwzjustadream
29th: [livejournal.com profile] candream
30th: [livejournal.com profile] weakmoments
31st: [livejournal.com profile] severina2001

Go, everyone, go! OH, and don't forget to update your numbers before Tuesday - the end of the month is approaching fast! THANK YOU!

We’re going on vacation!

Well, I’m going on vacation, [livejournal.com profile] haldoor is going on holiday. And we’re taking Dreamy with us, I don’t know what she wants to call it. Crazy, maybe.

It’s possible that you’ve avoided all of our squeeing about this and don’t know, but it’s not probable. H and I are finally meeting in person after 10+ years. (Is that right? How long have I known you? Jeeze, I’ve lost all retentive memory) We are going to Hawaii!

My point, however, is that we won’t be here, and we’re going to need a little help to keep things running smoothly while we’re out fangirling. Sure September is not next week, but we do try to set things up. [livejournal.com profile] haldoor has already done what she needs to set up, but I’m looking for quite a bit of volunteering from some of you. I can set up a few things to post without me, but there are 4 posts that I’d like members to cover, and there’s some other stuff.

I’m looking for the September 12th posting of Big Buddy 40%, and September 18th posting of Big Buddy 60%. I’m also looking for the general chatty Monday posts to be covered on the 12th and the 19th.

HERE is the biggest thing, the thing that I’m asking from all of you – MORE CHEERLEADING sporadically throughout the two weeks we are gone. We have the most fantastic comm in the world! I have seen each of you step in and encourage, praise, and hand-hold for anyone who needs it. I’m just looking for more of that. Both H & I try to make sure that every comment has a positive response, that every post has a GO YOU. Sure we’re not always timely, but we try. So if we can ask that you jump on in if you see something that needs encouragement that would be AWESOME! BECAUSE YOU ARE AWESOME! And hey, if someone gets more than one person telling them that their effort is not unnoticed, all the better.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, even if they don’t pertain to the comm, a random Kaige, what is the definition of management? is always welcome.

Keep your fingers crossed that the world doesn’t tilt on its access when H & I finally meet!

I'm in search of a word processing software similar to Microsoft Word that I can purchase for a reasonable price or download a free version of since I have to get a new laptop.

What do you all use or reccomend?
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
Hi everyone! Welcome to our new members - we've had a few people join since 2016 got underway, and it's so nice to have them here with us, right everyone?

Just a few things to let you know where we're at so far. Rare Pairs challenge has started! It's running for all of January, so check it out and get those rare pairs moving! ;-)

Kaige and I are still working on scheduling - thanks to everyone who has offered their help for all the regular posts and challenges this year. Thanks too, to everyone who voted in the poll! We have a fair idea now of which things are the most popular, and we'll be working out anything that hasn't already started and letting you know about that soon enough. We'll be in touch with the volunteers as we finalise dates and such. Thanks to everyone for their patience!

Please note that we will have to skip a few things this year, but don't be disheartened if it's something you really love - we still have 'flash!' challenges from time to time, so they could pop up then, or if you'd like to run a 'flash!' yourself on any of them, don't be shy to ask Kaige or myself; we're pretty happy for this to happen at various points during the year!

I wanted to tell you that we had a bunch of great icons made for the advent post on the 25th of December, and many of them (sorry there wasn't room for all of them; I had to delete a few older ones to fit them in!) have now been added to our user pics page, so feel free to nab any of them for your own use; please credit the maker - their user name is listed there.

We really need to post all the bigger graphics we have too - both old and new - so I'll try and get a post for that done soon, and link it at the top left in the comm so anyone can access that to use at any stage as well.

Another thing I'm going to do is run another friending meme - you may remember us doing this a couple of times before, but it's a new year and we have new members! It's a great time to get to know them, and to find out about people who've been with us from the beginning when you may have forgotten some of their fandoms/interests. Watch this space!

I also wanted to know who's interested in a 2015 Brag Book? [livejournal.com profile] thtwzjustadream posted for everyone to add some of their 'most proud of' works for 2014, so if anyone would like to put up a similar post for 2015 please comment here, and we'll get you on to that ASAP. Everyone else, start thinking about those fics and graphics that you think you did a super job on last year, and collect up your links!

Lastly for now, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who contributed words and/or graphics last year: YOU GUYS ROCK! I'm so looking forward to another great year - and with our newbies on board and everyone else going for ONE MORE WORD than last year, we'll easily surpass that 15.9 million for 2015. Let's rock 18 million for 2016!!! GO, US!!! ;-)
[identity profile] dalwriter.livejournal.com
My muse has taken me in a different direction away from the beloved H50 that originally drew me here to 1 Million Words but I'd love some more inspiration. Does anybody know of any communities that either write FF or even just discuss the USA show Graceland? The communities on FF.net & A03 are dead; both have less than 200 works & the show is in its second season.
[identity profile] witchyemerald.livejournal.com
I'd like to thank K and everyone for stepping up and taking over the last word race. And all your will wishes for the baby.

I'll be back this weekend ready to kick all your butts because I am really behind on my writing

Thank you

I love this comm, and I don't think I make a big secret out of it. I love the people, I love the challenges, I love the prompts, I love the encouragement, and I love that I'm writing. Some of you have heard the story of how I ended up here, I'm sure, about how I wrote exactly one thing between January 1 and June 23, 2013, then joined this comm and started writing again and how happy I am about it. So thank you all for being awesome.

But there's something else I want to thank everyone for, that I haven't talked about at all. I left it to [livejournal.com profile] kaige68 the one time it came up. And that's how I can't share my writing.

cut because it's long, and I also I drop an f-bomb )
