Good morning!

Here we are in the last week of February.  How’s your weather?  If you’re in the middle of snow and nastiness, I hope that it’s gone soon.  Now, on to the important stuff!

Reminders:

1. Flash Challenge!  Your flash challenge prompt is: birthday.  Give me 100 words or a graphic and I’ll reward you with my undying love and admiration.

2. Last week’s challenges:

Word of the day
Weekend Challenge
Thursday Tropes
A to Z
Numbers

And there are more, just check the tags!

3. Big Buddy is at 85%.  Are you on track?  I have gotten some words in, but I’m nowhere near where I need to be.

4. The Daily Count challenge is still going on.  You can find the list for the month here.

5. Our current long challenge, running through the end of the month, is WIP push!  This is winding down now so go forth and give those WIPs the what-for!

What are your plans for being awesome this week?  Since I’m writing this on Sunday, I’m getting ready to go celebrate my daughter’s 25th birthday, which was this past week.  Brunch than all the presents.  But after that, I need to get back cracking on my WIP.  Tell us how you’re going to be awesome this week.
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com

How's everyone going with their WIPs? We have a little under two weeks to go on this challenge, so hopefully those works you've picked up are moving along well, whether or not you finish it by month's end!

Let us know how you're going here, or if you need encouragement or help.

And here are a few more random prompts, in case they are of use:

1. Road Trip

2. Switched

3. Little white lies

Have fun including one or all of these in your creations!

[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
So here we are, another week gone by already! I am writing this from the South Office of work on a nice Tuesday morning, although rain is threatening for later - I won't complain as we do need it! The last couple of years we've had plenty of rain, but 2025 is starting out a lot drier and you can tell - the grass everywhere is so brown! I just want it to end by Thursday as my family and I are off to the beach for a few days, so we'd like it to be sunny! I hope the weather is as you'd like it where you are.

How are you all doing, anyway? Our Big Buddies should be at around 39% of their goal for the month - I hope you're all there, or close to it! You still have plenty of time to make up the words, anyway. Our current Long Challenge is the WIP Push, so don't be afraid to dust off something old and start adding words (or stitches! ;-)). It'll be around till the end of Feb, so you still have a couple of weeks to participate. I'll hopefully get a new post up soon with a couple more prompts for anyone interested.

Daily Count challenge people are continuing apace! YOU GUYS ROCK! I love seeing how you're all doing, even if I don't comment!

If you need extra prompts, don't forget to scroll back over the last week's entries, or check out the tags for any of the regular items that you love! We have so many good prompts in amongst them all!

Now, your flash challenge for today is: Big & bright! I'm sure you know it's Chinese New Year (CNY) around this time of year, and we are just going into Year of the Snake - I work with a few people from China and others with Chinese ancestry, so we are being treated to a morning tea by them shortly, and I am so looking forward to all the yummy food! I chose today's flash challenge because if you know anything about CNY, there's one thing it will definitely be, and that is big and bright! You don't have to write about CNY unless you want, but I'm sure you can find a few words about the prompt, or maybe just make some pretty graphics! Link or post your fill in a comment so we can all enjoy! No word/graphic minimum or maximum!

if you haven't checked in on the recent posts with the new Long Challenge (LC) and Weekend Challenge (WC) schedules, please do so, especially if you are hosting, so you can be sure the dates I have given you will work! Even if you're not involved, the LC post will be of interest if any of the upcoming challenges look like ones you want to be involved with! You can mark them in your calendar a bit early so you can start to prep beforehand, if you want, or just so you know when they're kicking off to roll up your sleeves and get into them!

And I think that's all I have! Let's be creative out there! ;-)

Good morning!

How’s the year going for you so far?  A little rough for me personally, with a sick cat, but he seems to be on the mend, so that’s a bonus.  Also, it’s going to be nearly 80 degrees here today, which is wild, even for the desert.

Reminders:

1. Flash Challenge!  Your flash challenge prompt is: scarlet.  Give me 100 words or a graphic and I’ll reward you with my undying love and admiration.

2. Last week’s challenges:

Word of the day
Weekend Challenge
Thursday Tropes
A to Z
Numbers

And there are more, just check the tags!

3. Big Buddy is at 7%.  Are you on track?  I managed nearly 450 words yesterday which surprised me.  So, I’m close for the first time this year.

4. The Daily Count challenge is still going on.  You can find the list for the month here.

5. Our current long challenge, running through the end of the month, is WIP push!  So, dust off those unfinished projects and let’s get some thing done!

What are your plans for the week?  Chime in below and let us know how you are going to be awesome this week.  Me, I’m going to be awesome by getting up and letting a particular orange cat have my chair.  Because, if I don’t, he won’t stop bothering me.  Hahaha.
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com

I have been slack, but we are now two weeks into the WIP Push Challenge, so it's past time I asked how you're doing! Comment here with your progress, and/or if you need assistance or encouragement!

I have not managed any words, though I did gather pictures for over half of the Year-end 100-in-100 prompts, so I need to get onto making those icons, and gathering the rest of the prompt pics! I've also slowly been working on the crochet phone bag I'm making myself from some very fine metallic thread (which is taking far longer than it should due to the fineness and continual backing up when I keep dropping one of the two threads I'm crocheting together! Very frustrating!). I will get it done though!

Here are some prompts, should you choose to incorporate them in whatever you're working on:

1. Tomorrow's another day

2. Flying monkeys

3. Blink and you'll miss it

Good luck with getting in more words! I'll try to check in a bit sooner next time!

Now, let's get creative out there! ;-)

How are you all doing?

I'm hating work, but I do feel like I'm controlling the things that I can. And with everything that is happening, I'm taking that win.

I have finished 2 knitting WIPs, which is very exciting, and I've knitted a month's worth of rows on my 2023 temperature blanket (yes, 2023). I've also written drabbles every week day for the last 2 weeks trying to do a character study and have over 4500 words. This feels awesome!!! Especially since I didn't write 1000 words last year.

I have, however, bought new yarn despite saying I was going to do the WIPs and 3 other projects. And then, of course, I have planned my 2024 blanket and my 2025 mood blanket so there is more projects, but the yarn won't be purchased until I start the last of the now 4 projects (does that make sense?).

Anyway, back to the comm:

Big Buddy should be at 87% today. How are you all doing?

Flash challenge: "IT'S SO FLUFFY! Do with it as you will.

The long challenge is the WIP Push. How are you doing with those? Even if they are other projects. How are your knitting WIPs?

Go forth and take a look at the challenges that have posted in the last week and let something inspire you.

And Reminder - Update your numbers as the month ends soon!

So it's probably still Monday where most of you are, so I'll get this party started by telling you that the title of this post* is a couple of lyric lines from a very well-known (in NZ) song that was a smash hit here a million years ago, called "Outlook for Thursday" by DD Smash. The next line seems about right for Tuesday here: "With a wind that chills you to the bone" even though we're in the midst of summer! I believe we are getting La Niña weather pattern this summer, one of the effects of which is "More north-easterly winds blow towards New Zealand, bringing rain to the northeast of the North Island". The rain hasn't hit us too hard yet, but OH BOY, those north-easterly winds are in full gear! Anything loose outside is getting blown across the garden, and it's just not pleasant to be outside in it. *sigh*

I shouldn't complain because I know how tough things are in places like California with the wild fires destroying so much, and the bitter cold and snow in other parts of the USA, but it's hard not to be disappointed in summer here so far! Anyway, I hope everyone you know is safe and well, and that none of our members and friends here have lost anything or anyone to the vagaries of the weather or fires. *hugs*

And now to business! )

At the risk of spamming you all, here is the entry to kick off 2025's first long challenge!

WIP PUSH 2025: 16 Jan to 28 Feb

WIP 2025 banner.jpg

All you have to do is check out your current WIPs and decide which one/s you're going to try to finish before the end of Feb! There are no limits, and you only have to do as much as you feel comfortable with. We'd love to see you complete and post something, so if you want to give yourself a goal, by all means do! Comment here to let us know what you're planning, and we'll do our best to help you stay on task!

I'll post every once and a while to see how you're doing and maybe offer up a prompt or two.

If you're stuck and you want an idea, ask away, and anyone can offer up some thoughts - whether you take their prompt/advice is up to you, though!

Today's prompts are:

1. Imagine all those annoyances have disappeared.
2. Just make a decision!
3. The stream was deliciously cool, but...
4. S/he couldn't wait to try it.
5. Saturdays were always trouble...

Now, come join us, and have fun!
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
I am writing this from Monday morning at my Home Office desk; I've scheduled it for tonight because for most of you it's still Sunday! We like to get ahead of things here in NZ (yeah, right! LOL!) Anyway, thought I'd better do it while I was thinking about it, or later I'd forget (story of my life).

Speaking of which, if anyone knows where I put that one Peter Pan handwarmer (I lost the other one at the airport in May), I could use it about now, as I'm currently wearing a wrist-wrap on my right hand because every now and then it's been giving me problems, and then it will be OK, so before I waste untold $$ going to the doctor's for it where he's likely to say 'Use a wrist-wrap for a while; see if that helps', I thought I would try the $20 option. If it doesn't help after a week or so, I will bite the bullet and pay the $$. It's cool over here now, since we are mid-winter while most of you are enjoying (far too much?) heat on the northern side of the planet, and I need to keep my hands warm when temps are down as purple doesn't suit me. Who knew one handwarmer would be useful - wherever I hid it from myself must be a good hiding place... and I know I didn't throw it out because I determined I would make one to match at some point, as I'm like that. ;-)

Right, enough banter about my idiocy! What's new on your writing horizon? Anything fun you'd like to share? I have not written for months, but that's hardly news! I am WAY behind on the monthly count - the last month I counted was March!!! I need to get that fixed, but will probably wait until July ends and do the month-by-month thing then. Make sure you update your figures between now and early August to be counted! I'm excited to find out how we're doing!

Now, our current Long Challenge is a WIP Push (Thanks for hosting, [livejournal.com profile] simplyn2deep, you did an awesome job!), but that's about to finish, so I hope you are well onto your goal with that one, if you took part! You still have time to get a few more words in before it ends, right? The next one up is a Drabble/Icon challenge, and I happen to know that [livejournal.com profile] angelus2hot has got a lot of awesome posts lined up! Jump on in; I will try to do so myself, since I've missed the last couple of challenges.

Big Buddies, you should all be at around the 48% mark on your goals, so I hope you're there or above! If not, how can we help you add words? Let us know!

Daily challengers - you guys are stars! You are doing so well! Keep up the good work!

Flash Challenge: No cheering from the crowd. Use it how you will! If you have the time, link us to any creation you get from it, so we can all tell you how fabulous you are!

And don't forget to scroll back over the last week, or check out the tags for any of our regular challenges, to pick up any prompts you missed, and use them to ADD WORDS!!! I know you want to!

That's it from me; have a great Monday, and may the rest of your week have you adding words like there's no tomorrow! Let's be creative out there! ;-)

Good morning!  If you’re in the throes of summer, I hope you’re able to stay cool.  It’s been brutal here already this year.  Hitting record highs and we’re not even at the hottest part of the summer yet.
How was last week?  Were you productive or were you a slug like me?  Wherever you landed, know that every bit counts!

Reminders:

1. Flash Challenge!  Your flash challenge prompt is: stitches (since I’m listening to Shawn Mendes… LOL).  Give me 100 words or a graphic and I’ll reward you with my undying love and admiration.

2. Last week’s challenges:

Word of the day
Weekend Challenge
Thursday Tropes
A to Z
Numbers

And there are more, just check the tags!

3. Big Buddy is at 80%.  How are you doing?  I was on top of this until last week.  Time for me to catch up, I think.

4. The Daily Count challenge is going strong.  You can check the list here to see when you’re up next.  It covers all of June.  So, go forth and get some words!

5. Our current long challenge is WIP Push!  Do you have something that’s been languishing on your hard drive, begging to be finished?  Now’s the time to drag it out and beat it into shape.  Check the tag here for prompts, encouragement, and check ins!

And I’m done.  Time to head out to work for another fun week.  Hahaha.  All three of the owners are out this week, so it ought to be really interesting.  Wish me luck since one particular co-worker seems to think he’s ‘in charge’ whenever the bosses aren’t around.

Let us know in the comments how you’re doing and what your plans for the week are.  Have a good one, everyone!

Edited to add title since it's early here and I was fighting with my computer to post.  *headdesk*

Happy June everyone!  Is it screaming hot where you are, because it is here.  Man, sometimes it’s not fun living in the desert.  But I’m not going to let that stop me from being creative.  So, here we go!

Reminders:

1. Flash Challenge!  Your flash challenge prompt is: ten inches from the midday sun.  Give me 100 words or a graphic and I’ll reward you with my undying love and admiration.

2. Last week’s challenges:

Word of the day
Weekend Challenge
Thursday Tropes
A to Z
Numbers

And there are more, just check the tags!

3. Big Buddy is at 33%.  How are you doing?  Thanks to the WIP challenge, I’m actually ahead of the game for once.  Let’s hope it stays that way.

That’s about it for today.  The projected high is 104ºF, so staying inside is on the bucket list.  Hah.  Happy Monday everyone.  If you’re in the midst of summer, stay cool, stay hydrated, and take care of yourself.
