I've recently watched Season 2 of The Last of Us, and let's just say I'm very sad about the events in it, so I don't spoil too much for anyone who wants to watch, but doesn't know what happens. So, to make myself feel a little better I decided my Pool Party entry would be in relation to my favourite episode from Season 1, which if any of you are like me, was definitely one of the best! If you haven't figured it out, it featured Bill & Frank, and while somewhat bittersweet, it played out so beautifully.

I've been dying of a cold all week. Okay, not dying but my nose has been an absolute faucet and I have no energy at all. Anyway, today I woke up and somehow found that my Muse had awoken! So I did a couple of product reviews, made a new header for my journal over on Dreamwidth, a new banner for my fic Burning Love, and then wrote just over 3000 words on a new chapter.

So, yep, I have been productive and feel pretty good about it. Now I'm going to see if I can focus long enough to get some reading done - I think my TBR pile has grown like a weed but at least I'm not behind on any ARCs.

So doing a Edward/Jake pairing got me thinking about other Twilight characters, which is why today we have Alice and Bella!

I always loved how welcoming Alice was to Bella – even being able to see some of the trouble ahead, she was still so warm and kind! So – as a little reminder that Rare Pairs can just be friendships, what adventure would you have Alice taking Bella on? Or would she be mesmerised by Bella (like everyone else) and somehow the red eyes spread to both of them – imagine how deadly they could be!

An oldie but a goodie – did you write Twilight fanfiction? I did – started by writing Paul and Emmett because for some reason, it lit up my muse.

So if you were playing in the Twilight sandbox, what would your Edward and Jake be doing? Would they still be fighting, or would they be lovers? Let’s not forget the fascinating backstory we never really got for Alice and Jasper; the early adventures of Emmett; what Carlisle did when he first left the Volturi.

It’s called Birthday Girl but it isn’t quite the sweet song you might imagine. Welcome to day 2 – what did you think of the song? Below, you will find the video of his song “Time in a Tree” which is from his second album called “Andy”.

It has a completely different vibe to The Greatest but there’s something about this song that really speaks to me. When I play it, I stop what I’m doing and just listen – it’s a very chill song with a very relaxing feel to it, so hopefully you will get the same feeling as I do.

Hello and welcome to my first weekend challenge for 2025! And for your delight, this weekend I am bringing you songs by Raleigh Ritchie. If you haven’t heard him before, you are in for a treat because this man can sing. You might recognise him as Jacob Anderson who played Grayworm in Game of Thrones, but he has most recently been playing Louis on Interview With The Vampire and he is absolutely stellar in that role!

Below, you will find one of Raleigh’s videos from YouTube – your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to create something using this as inspiration. The song is called ‘The Greatest’ and comes from his album called ‘You’re A Man Now, Boy’ which is an amazing listen.

Let this take you wherever your muse wants – write about one of your favourite characters and why they’re the greatest; icons of some of your favourite things; your characters attending a concert – go with the flow and let your creativity roam free!

Yeah, so I might just be using this as an excuse to play with pictures of some of the prettiest protagonists on the shows I watch – sue me!

I’ve given you images of lots of crossovers, including this one of Tony DiNozzo from NCIS and Derek Hale from Teen Wolf – but your rare pair doesn’t have to be a crossover. Just grab a couple of characters from your show – maybe the ones that are in the background and don’t get as much love as they should – and bring them to the fore. What would happen if they were the lead – how would things play out differently? Let your Muse run free (not that I have any control over mine anyway) and see what they come up with!

I am having an absolute blast playing with the whole idea of rare pairs! For your delectation today, I present to you Dean Winchester and Mazikeen. Mazikeen is a demon on the show Lucifer – just how would Dean handle her? Mazikeen is strong, confident, witty and a demon – does our demon hunter stand a chance against her?

Is your favourite character the biggest and baddest in their fandom? If so, just how would they cope if you threw them into another verse entirely – would they still come out on top? Would they find their soul mate? Why don’t you give it a go and find out!

By now, you know the drill – this challenge is all about those rare pairs! It doesn’t have to be a rare pair in general, just a rare pair to you. Try this: randomly pick two of your favourite fandoms, then choose two characters – how would they interact? What might happen between them?

Just as an example, I’ve never written Iron Man and the Winter Soldier. But (spoilers for those that haven’t watched the movies), we find out that the Winter Soldier was responsible for the deaths of Tony’s parents – how would Tony punish Bucky given the opportunity? What if all of that messing with his brain means that Bucky’s inner submissive is looking for someone to help him control those murderous impulses?

So why don’t you have a go – throw your characters up in the air and see who lands together, you never know what you might end up creating!
