Where is my head? Honestly, some days it's not anywhere it's supposed to be! I completely forgot to do the count over the weekend, and now I'm at work. I have some numbers here, but I would really rather gather everything up at home as I may have previous months completed by people since my last check here, so I'll get to it as soon as I can (hopefully straight after work!). In the meantime, anyone who would like to add in anything they haven't updated, you still have time!!!

I'm sorry, everyone, I still haven't done the count for August! No real excuse except that it was Father's Day here in NZ yesterday, and I was thinking about that and doing things with my hubby and kids, so it didn't enter my head for one minute! I'll get onto it ASAP. Actually it'll be tonight after work as my spreadsheet is at home, so you have some extra time to update your word/graphic counts if you haven't already!

Also, once Sunday is done where you live, August Rush will be finished! [livejournal.com profile] hiddlepinebatch, if you are reading, let me know in a comment if you want me to do the round-up of entries, and organise rewards, or if you have that under control (or if you're like me, it's more likely under semi-control!) ;-). We had some great entries for the Rush this year, so if you haven't had a look, check out the 'challenge: august rush' tag! If you participated, THANK YOU! You all did fantastically on this!

Don't forget, Bingo is September's challenge, and I know Dreamy will be kicking that off shortly, so get your creative juices ready to start marking off squares! ;-)

I HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN THE COUNT!

Well, actually I did yesterday... as I was busy getting Game of Thrones screencaps (it took ages to wade through SO MANY GOOD ONES) until 10.30pm last night (much longer than half an hour from start to finish, unlike my amazing co-conspirator, [livejournal.com profile] hiddlepinebatch! She's a miracle-worker!!!).

So, yeah, it kinda slipped my mind, even though I knew the day before that it needed to be done soon; I thought I'd give everyone on the 'past' side of the planet (i.e. those of you on the other side of the date line!) a chance to get those counts in before I got onto it last night. And then last night I remembered I needed to get screen-caps, and before you knew it, it was bedtime!

I'm at the orifice right now so I don't have my spreadsheet with me to get it done here, so I will get ON IT as soon as I get home tonight. In any case, it gives anyone else running behind a chance to update their July numbers, so go on! Get on with it now! *shoos them in the right direction*.

SORRY, in any case; I'm on it later though, I promise!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to apologise for not being around much these days. I have been very tired up in RL for some time now because we are in the process of selling our house and buying another. This continues to involve a LOT of time doing things that I will not go into here, and that means I haven't the time or energy to get online as much as I have done in the past. As we don't settle on the house we're buying until the end of June, there's still a lot to do, especially considering our old house hasn't sold yet either. So, I'm sorry to say, I will continue to be rather erratic for a while.

Anyway, I have been off in la-la land much of the time, so I haven't weighed in here at the comm. on the whole ToS debacle, let alone do many of the things I would normally do here. In fact, I have barely written any words this year, so far, and I can't see that improving any time soon. I will do my best to remind Weekend Challengers and the monthly peeps that your time is coming, but if you could all keep an eye on your place in the schedule, in case I get behind, that would be awesome! ;-)

I just wanted to let you all know that I haven't abandoned you; and I do intend to come back to the fold again properly once we have unpacked and relaxed into our new home, sometime after the end of June - hopefully I'll be back up to speed in time to run August Rush without any issues!

And as for what we are doing with the comm... well, Kaige, Dreamy and I have have yet to discuss more in depth, but know that I have personally just read ALL of your comments (and [livejournal.com profile] naemi's post on why we shouldn't panic too, thanks, love!) on Kaige's post asking for your thoughts, so we will be having that discussion at some point soon.

In the meantime, all is as it was, and we will continue on here at LJ until we make any decisions in any direction. For now, that's all I have, but know I am still lurking around here somewhere! *hugs*

Hey everyone, how's it going? First off tonight, I want to say we're sorry that we have not got things off the ground as well as we would have liked this year - [livejournal.com profile] kaige68 has been sick, and then work's been crazy for her so she tells me to apologise on her behalf for not being on the ball right now - and I also want to apologise for me! I don't have her excuses and have in fact been on holiday recently so should have had more time, but somehow things have got away on me. I'll also apologise in advance if I end up a bit distracted over the next few months, but my family and I are looking at selling our house and buying another, so there may be a lot of stuff going on.

Despite all this, we are still very determined to keep the comm going and help inspire you to more words! I know we couldn't do it without all your help either, which we very much appreciate. Thank you to all of you who put up your hands in the post I made a while ago asking for volunteers and ideas for this year. I'm sorry I haven't directly answered any of your comments there, but K and I were planning to work through things together, and that just hasn't happened yet. So it's not too late to volunteer, either, so please follow the link and leave a comment if you want to help and haven't yet let us know! I still won't reply on that post at this point, but I am in the process of writing an email to the people concerned with the monthly challenges, and we will gradually work on the rest as we can!

Meanwhile, I have the Daily Count Challenge assignments for the rest of January! If your day doesn't work, please feel free to do it on another day along with whoever is assigned, and would the person assigned please pass it on when you're done, as per previous DCCs!

Here are your dates:

26th: [livejournal.com profile] craterdweller
27th: [livejournal.com profile] dracosdreamer

30th: [livejournal.com profile] weakmoments

I posted this to my journal, but since I found my works and works from [livejournal.com profile] kaige68, [livejournal.com profile] haldoor, and [livejournal.com profile] sharpiesgal on the site, I thought I would share this with the community as a whole.

------------

This was brought to my attention by [livejournal.com profile] luckweaver and yes, I found my stuff and stories belonging to everyone I have listed. Pass the word along.

Warning, and subsequent advice, originally posted here:

--------------------------

We’ve been getting pings and @’s all morning about ebooks-tree.com who seem to be scraping/taking stories off of AO3 and hosting them as PDFs and mobi downloads on their site; the site seems to be pulling from UrBookLibrary as well. They’re not reading your “do not copy/duplicate” notes on your AO3 fic; their bots are pulling things directly from AO3, without AO3′s authorization or assent. It looks like they are pulling from Wattpad too, again without authorization or assent.

While the Ebooks-Tree DMCA page seems to imply that you need a lawyer or other “authorized person” to submit a takedown notice, you don’t; you can do it yourself.

As we’ve posted before, fanfic writers hold copyright in their stories, although not in lines/quotes from the works they’ve been inspired by, and because of that, fanfic writers can submit DMCA takedown notices, or have someone do it on their behalf. While this post isn’t legal advice (none of our posts on FYC are), you might want to consider using this template (well, the bolded bits) in telling ebooks-tree to take down your content:
Your Name and/or Pseudonym as an e-signature (or the name of the person you’ve authorized to submit this request, with a slash before it and after it)
Link(s) to the unauthorized works (link to the pdf, the mobi and the page hosting all of it)
Link(s) to an authorized version of your work (whether on AO3, tumblr, LJ or somewhere else)
An email address of the submitter (include it again even if it’s in the header)
This statement: I have good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
This statement: The information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

tumblr user besinaao3 offers us this advice:

My name is [name] and I am the author and owner of the following works:
• “title” by “author”
• “title” by author

These are my intellectual property. I do not give you or anyone else permission to offer these works for download, and I did not consent for them to be available on your website. I am requesting that you remove them immediately. I can be reached by e-mail at [e-mail].

This information is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, I am authorized to act on my own behalf as the owner of this material.

Signed,
[signature]

Cut and paste that into their contact form and make sure that you make the subject line read: “DMCA Complaint” or they won’t process it.

you can also send an e-mail to their host: Response from Moniker: The best way to handle that is to contact our abuse team at abuse@moniker.com. They will be able to assist you or point you in the correct direction for legal matters such as this. This chat line is not equipped to handle matters of a legal nature such as this.

----------

Extra warning: I don't feel I should need to say this, but please, do not download anything from the Ebooks-Tree site and do not give out your credit card information.

April 14 Update: (Information collected from [livejournal.com profile] iulia_linnea)

Please be advised that Ebooks Tree's URL no longer ends in .com (ebooks-tree.com); it now ends in .net (ebooks-tree.net). Further, ebooks-tree.com now redirects to ebooks-tree.net. I believe that this change may have been made by Ebooks Tree to avoid having to take down stolen material, which means that in order to have stolen material removed from the site, one needs to submit a DMCA complaint letter to abuse@moniker.com (Moniker is Ebooks Tree's hosting site) with the altered links to one's works.

When I search for my name, I no longer find any works listed for me on an author's page. Though Iulia still get the link to the 'full version' on her check and takes her to the sign up gimmie your credit card information.

I agree with her, the site is more than a little hinky and full blown stinky.

Well, 2014 turned out to be insane. I had two jobs and an internship until May, graduated from college in May, my daughter graduated in high school in May, got a full time job in June, moved... I think that's it? Anyway, writing was something that just didn't happen.

But I signed up for a Sterek Valentine exchange on Tumblr and it made me miss writing. Very much. And I miss the fun of this community. So I've updated my numbers and my goals, and I'm going to forget that 2014 was creatively unproductive. It's a new year now! New chance to do some of the things I love to do.
[identity profile] haldoor.livejournal.com
Okay, it's totally my fault... although I am going to kick Yahoo's ass because all my calendar reminders have failed lately and I managed to completely forget that there should have been any... so there was not only no comment fic prompt up for Friday, but I also missed reminding the weekend challenge host that it was her turn. *headdesk*

Sorry, everyone, especially if you were expecting that there would be more entries and prompts for you to play with.

To make up for it, here is the FAIL AT CHALLENGES CHALLENGE! )

...and go ahead - create! ;-) HAVE FUN!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to pop in and apologise for not answering all the wonderful comments to my Easter post, except one quick one just now about Cadbury's Creme Eggs, as I wanted to know something about that. The rest though, I did see and I found it really interesting reading all about the different hings you have done or do for Easter, and how different or similar they are for me! At this point, though, I'm a little overwhelmed with one thing and another and as it's gone by in such a rush and is now nearly two weeks ago, it all seems a bit pointless to start making long replies (which is what I'd do, knowing me). So again, sorry for not replying when it was relevant, and also, though maybe no one noticed, I was supposed to post something for ANZAC day... and yes, I forgot that too. Maybe next year... SORRY!
