RARE FANDOMS!

I'm not going to put a number on these to define rare, but let's just say all our fandoms that don't get nearly enough love. For me, my favorite rare fandoms are the three Chicago shows (Fire/PD/Med), Quantico (even if I am a little behind) and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

The Chicago shows are almost like mini-soap operas, but in the best way. On the surface, the shows are about the fire department, the police officers and the medical staff of Chicago, but really they are just about the characters and all the ups and downs they face. And they face a lot of ups and downs!

Quantico drew me in from episode 1 last year. The way the story is told — half in present day and half in flashback — is just so intriguing and I love watching how it all comes together just as much as I love all the characters.



And Brooklyn Nine-Nine is probably my favorite comedy. It's hysterical. All the characters are so well-defined and so distinct but somehow it just works and I adore it.

Ack. So we got a little off of our daily posting. Somehow the entry for the weekend never got posted and I just realized it. So excuse the slight extra dose of fandom squee as we get caught up.

Remember, too, you can come squee at any time you want, from now up until the first couple weeks of December (since we know many of you are Nano'ing). It's never too late to squee!

So let's move on to the late weekend fandom squee:

NEW FANDOMS!

('New' being a relative term. It doesn't have to be a fandom that just appeared. It could be an old fandom that is new to you.)

For me, the newest fandom that I've actually done fandom things with is probably the Avengers Academy video game (or, well, mobile game). OMG you guys. This game is the cutest. It's a ton of the different Marvel characters all imagined as teenagers going to college, and the interactions are just adorable. You basically make your way through the storylines and unlock characters and buildings and rank people and things up. I mean, you don't do a ton, but somehow I am super obsessed with it.




My newest fandoms in terms of things I am watching that I really am loving and am wanting to do fandom things with but haven't yet are probably Conviction (which, of course, is practically cancelled already, but I'll take what I can get), which is about a group that looks at old cases that are being appealed to see if they think the convictions should be kept or overturned, and The Good Place, which is so, so cute and I love it so much. Kristen Bell is adorable as Eleanor, who was sent to 'The Good Place' by mistake after she died, and the show is constantly making me laugh.

This is another show I haven't actually watched, but I know a lot of people who are crazy in love with it I also know there are orgies, and I do hope to watch it someday. So for those of you who love it, tell us why. Are you excited for a second season?

So, for today's Fandom Squee, we're doing a two-for-one since they go together so well:

BUFFY & ANGEL

On my list of all-time favorite TV shows, Buffy is my #1. It very well might always be. Which is funny, because I had seen the so bad it's actually funny movie, so when I heard they were making it a TV show, I totally scoffed and was like 'Yeah, not watching that.' Except my roommate watched it. And my mom and my sister watched it. So I sat down partway through season 1 and watched an ep ... and that was all it took.

It was such a good show. Funny and serious and sad and scary and action-packed and everything. And 'Hush' and 'Once More, With Feeling' are probably two of my very favorite hours of TV ever best musical episode ever. and you can fight me on that. So, so, so, so, so good.

Angel I never loved quite as much as I loved Buffy, but it's part of Buffy, so it also gets a huge piece of my heart. I loved Cordy more on Angel than I did on Buffy, and I loved, loved, loved Fred.

These shows. I just can't say enough. This post is making me want to do a re-watch. Heh.

So every weekend this Fandom Squee month, we are going to do something a little different. Instead of giving you a specific fandom, we're going to give a more general theme to open up the squeeing to even more fandoms. So today I present to you:

YOUR FIRST FANDOM!

Everyone has one — that fandom that drew you in. Maybe it's the one that got you started writing fic or creating graphics. Or maybe you just secretly had your first ship and spent hours thinking about them.

For me, my first fandom was on for only 12 episodes back in 1991: Dark Shadows. I had never seen the original (I've seen an episode here and there since then) and I didn't know the story, but I fell in love with this show. I had no idea what shipping was back then, but I shipped Barnabus and Victoria so damn hard. And when it ended on a cliffhanger, never to return to TV, I spent a lot of hours dreaming of what would have happened. I didn't actually write fic back then, but if I had, I probably would have written novels.


Ughhh this show. Forever going to hold a piece of my heart.
