New Graphics Challenge!

Hello! I'm here today to announce a new graphics challenge that will be running through October and November! It's a Calendar Challenge, and this means galadriel34 and I will be asking you to help us make one or more calendars for everyone at the comm to use in 2014, should they so wish!



Basic Rules:

1. You need to be willing to create graphics for one or more months, for one or more fandoms.
2. Completed graphics must be the following resolutions: 1000x1600 pixels for portrait and 1600x1000 pixels for landscape
3. Colors should be in 16 bit
4. If at all possible, use HD images for the best results (greater than 1024x768 pixels)
5. You can use one character/actor or as many as you want from your chosen fandom/s
6. The calendar pictures must be completed and submitted by the end of November (we'll cover how to do this closer to submission date).
7. haldoor and galadriel34 will collate the months and make them into as many calendars as necessary, or offer a selection of months in downloadable versions so members can print them at home if they wish. This will be completed by the end of December.

Sign-ups:

In comments, please:
- express your interest in contributing to the calendar/s
- tell us what fandoms you want to cover
- state how many months you want to contribute graphics for

Once we have your response to this post, we'll decide how many calendars we'll be looking at making overall. Depending on fandom interest, we may group creators and themes according to these or simply go with combinations, but in either case, we'll look at offering individual months for download too. It will also depend on your response to the polls on how we run things in the end, but our next post will explain more.

If I haven't covered anything or you need anything clarified, ask away - either Gala or I will do our best to answer or explain, after consultation with each other if need be.

Oh, and lastly, these graphics can be counted in any other count or requirement for this comm - ask us about posting elsewhere if you have something else that may coincide, but there's probably no reason why your work can't be used for other commitments if they are similar.

Question fandom only or what about writing/inspire them if people want themes?

Do you mean some kind of illustrations for a story? Basically we meant about themes for overall the calendar or the months one by one, like: smile, fight, dress up, pairs, ect. I hope it understandable by me but if not H will answer you properly when she come back :)

I'd like to participate, but my time is really limited as I've already signed up for so many things and participate actively in 5 icon contests.

That said, I think I could at least help contribute with two or maybe three.

I'd really like to participate but my graphic skills are rudimentary at best. If I can do basic graphics, I think I could handle that.

If my skills aren't up to the challenge, I certainly understand if you'd rather I didn't play.

Oh no, don't let that limit you! This comm is about learning too, so if you want to have a go (I'm not very expert with graphics either but I found a couple of great free online sites and have been playing - see my ST:ID rewards for hiddlepinebatch for examples) you are more than welcome! As long as YOU are happy with the end result, we definitely have room for you to play!

Now, what fandoms would you consider and how many months do you think you could manage?

I'm always saying that I need to challenge myself when it comes to Photoshop, so what the heck, sign me up for a month or two!

I tend to work better in landscape, but I'm not constrained by that, and although I voted for themes, I'm pretty easy in that too, sometimes I need inspiration, sometimes the idea just flows.

Although I'd probably come up with something better for a fandom I'm in/aware of, I'd have a go at something new. Familiar fandoms are quite small in number, but H50, Nu!Star Trek, Lost, and would probably give LotR a go too, seeing as though it's pretty.

Those are the ones I have the most saved for in the large size.

Voted no for themes since I find it easier to just go with the flow. When I think of themes for a calendar my thought is Christmas/Winter for December (have digital scrapbooking kits purchased for both summer Christmas, used in my Advent Calendar last year, and winter Christmas), Love/Valentine for February, Halloween for October and Fall for November. I realize that we have members from all over the world so those might not work for everyone.

Quick question....we'd be making the calendars like the examples with the dates on the lower section or one of the sides if it's landscape and being part of the 1000x1600? If that makes sense.

I think what you say it's the working one for the dates, because if you want to write something in the dates (if you printed it) you will be able to see the pretty pictures ;)

That's so awesome! That's two full calendars if we do one fandom per month, although maybe we could let people choose which fandoms they will definitely cover for the number of months they want to do, and then we can decide if we'll do it that way or just see how many of each (and which aren't chosen in order to leave them out) are picked to decide if we can make one whole fandom calendar or combos according to numbers. E-mail me with your thoughts, and we can discuss.

Just a thought....what about putting up a post and having people sign up for a month(s) along with the fandom. That might help out with seeing if you would end up with a calendar for one fandom of multi-fandoms.

Tossing this out too - if it's multi-fandoms maybe group the calendars so you have all sci-fi in one, drama in another and on and on.

I was just going to try my hand at making a month or two and once I get them done I'll post them. Never made a calendar before so curious about what it will look like when I make it. Since my 20in20 is done and posted I have the time now!
