(Thanks so much for hosting the challenge. I had fun. And now, as promised an actual color as color drabble)

“His eyes were gunmetal grey,” Aileen read aloud from the tattered paperback romance.

“Hmm. 'Zat supposed to be sexy or something?” Russ asked, sleepily from the spot on the couch where he was watching a hockey game.

“Maybe to some girls. I prefer soulful eyes. Eyes you could drown in.”

“So... blue? Like mine?”

“Not just blue or green. It's more of a quality.”

“I don't have soulful eyes?”

“No. You have nice eyes, but I wouldn't call them soulful.”

“Huh. Well, at least they're not gunmetal grey.”

“No.”

“Well, that's something. Is that a western you're reading?”

“No. Contemporary romance.”

“So is the lady in it a cop or something?”

“She owns the local bakery.”

“How does she know what gunmetal grey is?”

“Pardon?”

“That's a pretty specific color. It implies she's held a gun at some point in her life. I'm not feeling a gun-toting baker vibe.”

“We haven't gotten too deeply into the backstory and the- hey, how could he miss that?”

“What?” Russ asked, swiveling his head back to the television to catch the replay. “Unbelievable.”

He fell quiet and Aileen went back to her book.

“That's about as unbelievable as a gun-toting baker,” he muttered.
