Do you have a preferred kind of show or movie that you write fic for? For my part, it's hour long dramadies that hit the spot: Shows with the combination of some humor, some action, some ongoing story arc.  I have written a couple of things for half hour comedies, but not all that much. And shows that are all dark don't do it for me. I need the leavening of a little humor here and there, in order to want to keep coming back to a story.

Here are some titles you might try out, if you're shopping for a new show. These are among the best of the 2020s, according to the following sites:

Collider gives a shout out to:

"Shōgun" (2024): A new series from FX, created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks

"Severance" (2022): Created by Dan Erickson for Apple TV+.

"The Bear" (2022): Created by Christopher Storer for FX.

"The White Lotus" (2021): Created by Mike White for HBO.

"Squid Game" (2021): Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk for Netflix.

"I May Destroy You" (2020): Created by Michaela Coel for the BBC.

"The Queen's Gambit" (2020): Created by Scott Frank and Allan Scott for Netflix.

Among others, IMDB left kudos for:

"Succession" (2018)
"It's a Sin" (2021)
"Squid Game" (2021)
"Better Call Saul" (2014)
"Bojack Horseman" (2015)
"Loki" (2021)
"Wandavision" (2021)
"The Good Place" (2016)
"The Boys" (2019)
"Mare of Easttown" (2021)

And the online site Filmsfatale.com would point you to:

Lady in the Lake
The Bear
Abbott Elementary
Fallout
The Penguin
Pachinko
Hacks
Disclaimer
Arcane: League of Legends

Are any of these a hit for you? A possible summer binge?  I might have to give up and try The Boys, even though I think it's a notch or two higher than my tolerance level on several measures. I have to get back to The Bear, because I was getting into it before I churned away from Hulu. Maybe *that* will be my pool party choice for 2025!

I'm a bit like you - a good dose of humour along with the drama, with a particular slant towards sci-fi and SOME fantasy. What annoys me is when they slot sci-fi and fantasy together, because they are quite different. I lean more to the sci-fi side of things, so while I don't mind a healthy dose of other worlds, give me some realism (and a touch of humour too) every time!

The new season of The Bear is apparently dropping later this month, so that might be a good reason to get back to it.

I also loved both Abbott Elementary and Mare of Eastown. Wish Mare was more than a limited series because it was so good.

And The White Lotus is just crackfic put to film so...

It's actually a pretty good series, but some crazy stuff does happen every season.

The Bear can be a bit stressful if you try and binge it, so hopefully you can get back to it soon. Hahaha — I've been doing that with Hulu — just about everything I want to watch is on there.
