“Took care of it,” Enola muttered. Most of the people in the room she knew now, except for the unconscious woman and the HOPE agent. One HOPE agent made the situation less than ideal so she stayed beside Kato, her hand on the knife at her hip as Uzzi pried Candace out of Kato’s arms and took her to another empty bench. Eddie followed.
“Who are…?”
“Associates of Ms. Marrock…traveling with me from Fort Hamilton,” Aman explained, relieved that the woman had been rescued without any apparent difficulty. She traveled north to LaGuardia…we came south to retrieve her…and bring Geary the report…”
“Should have come sooner,” muttered Korma. “If you can get a fast courier, I can get word of this to Grand Elder…”
Kato bristled and growled, “No one’s taking word of anything to…”
“Channon has murdered Laedan Hallister,” Aman said, attempting a soothing tone despite the tension, disappointment, and sadness in his voice. “The Anakarist can warn them…tell them of the general’s fate…”
“He needs no allies now. We isolate him before he gets to LaGuardia, we might keep Jia safe.”
Uzzi’s reminder made Kato frown but he did not relax his stance. “Or she’ll make sure he has allies…”
“That is in no one’s best interest,” Korma assured them.
“None of this is.” Uzzi ran his hand over his white hair. “Once word of their murders…with no one…in control of the boroughs…”
“Then we keep it quiet. There is no need for the Grand Elder to know yet. Aman,” Korma studied the only person in the room she knew. “When she wakes, we discus our options with his daughter…see how she wants to manage this, if she is fit to qualify for…”
“She is fit,” Aman grunted protectively.
