From the height of the thick branch upon which they perched, Agnes and Cori had a broad overview of the parah village, the small herd of cattle grazing at the broad river’s edge the territory gradually being prepared and filled with refugees from within the fall city, and the river’s sprawl as it tumbled swift and strong from their right to eventually divide and crash over the cliff edge in five places, devoured by the metal nest and eventually spat out again in its narrow race towards the sea. The river’s chatter was faint from where they hid amongst the leaves, Cori focused on his sketch of the tree in the book he frequently carried as Agnys watched an eagle soar overhead, circling the river in search of an unwary fish.
