With a tug on Otta’s arm, Skelter continued up the stairs, pulling her along with him. She snarled at Molly, who unsuccessfully tried to keep his frustration and fear from his face.
He had no weapon now. With Otta beside him, Molly knew he had no chance. He might take the lame Skelter in a fight, but he would never best Otta. Now that he had failed, and the woman knew his intent, it would be harder to get another chance.
“I hope they get you!” he spat, pointing at a crow-beaked figure walking some distance away on another path. “You’re a coward! They’ll do it for me! They’ll keep the oath!”
Skelter rolled his eyes but continued walking away, pretending not to see the far away brako. It was possible Molly was right. It was also possible that his Heb use was going to do Molly in first. For Otta’s sake, and their baby’s, Skelter hoped that was true, though he would much prefer that Molly simply leave him alone.
