Enoch skirted the corner crowd of off-shift workers gathered around an Echo that had switched from showing the late Founder in state to the procession of Nau members, former friends and associates, creeping behind the prone form, offered their own brief remembrance of the man to the listening public before moving to the dais on the other side of the room when their praise was finished. Nothing but glowing words, respectful words, that failed to express the hollow reality the Lev viewers had experienced.
Few seemed upset by the man’s death, only disturbed by the assassination and distressed about what the future held. Eyes watched the screen, the room adorned with banners and the open view screen to the Outside…a legacy not owed the Founder in any way but which would forever be associated with him…a scene meant to impress and perhaps encourage the viewers that a move Outside was good for everyone without saying the words this day.
Those were the morsels echoing in conversation the pros and cons of change interspersed with the excitement of Senior Kal’s announcement.
