Weekend Challenge: Tackling Domestic Challenges

Am hoping K & H won't mind, but I didn't see a weekend challenge so thought I would jump in. This week: getting down to household brass tacks. Yeah, it's all wonderful for your fictional darlings to be out there saving the world on the daily, solving crimes, or wreaking villainous havoc - but sooner or later they're going to have to whip the homestead into shape.

Let me know you're in, and I'll give you a domestic chore or crisis or whew-not-a-crisis-after-all that either myself or people around me have been tackling lately. Let's see if they inspire some words!

PS - I might take a bit to reply - I've got to work on the basement before the heating systems guy gets here ....

sure! I've got some of those 'chores' to do today...on top of crunching in the last of NaNo Camp words...but I'll see what I can do!

I started my Saturday with an hour and a half of chores....which is so not like me, lol. I usually fold them all into my weekdays somewhere, but....doesn't always work that way.

I'll give a couple per request. And Good luck with the NaNo words!

Chore: Hand washing dishes
Crisis: Looks like you need to add a new roof on top of your roof (friend just did this, thankfully not me)

Chore: Sorting paperwork and paying bills — and/or cleaning out the junk drawer
Crisis: Having to take the entire dish washer apart to clean it or repair it.

Well, maybe the second one isn't a crisis...but it's feeling like one to me, lol.

That second one's only a crisis when you come home from the grocery store to find Zayne on the floor of the kitchen with bits and pieces of dishwasher all over your clean tile. HAH.

It's the time of year to get that done, right?! All the repair people around here are so busy, it's hard to get anyone to even swing by for the estimate - but I'm crossing my fingers he shows.

Yours are:
Chore: Clearing stuff from the basement shelves, and damp mopping the floor.
Crisis: Blown fuse? Or all out electrical failure?

The last couple of years we’ve had it serviced, the men have gone “Eh, you might want to start saving, it’s starting to go” and we’ve had people out mid year to look at it too... this year during its annual service the chap goes “I would not trust that to get you through the winter” so we were like “yep, time for a new one!” Definitely the time of the year to get it done, I do not want to be without heat in the middle of December!

Sounds familiar! :) My repair guy told me in December that mine might keep going fine for years- or any one of three pieces could go tomorrow and the whole thing will fail. I'd rather be the friend/family who can host you while your heating crisis is fixed than be the one who gutted it out too long!

The first two years I owned my house--our A/C went out the hottest week of the summer. So far... so good. *knocks on wood table*

Ugh. Timing really is everything! Hope it holds up this time. I'm used to apartment life and having a super in the building. Having to navigate taking care of my own place has been ....fun? A learning experience for sure.

It really is. We're almost through the real heat (although we're through our 100+ days) and it held up!

Yeah it really is a learning experience. I always lived in apartments or my mom's house... but never in a building with a super. But at least I could call my landlord and say "Something broke."
