We talked about doing holiday posts early last month. Having one member write something about the holiday, what it means to them, and how it inspires them. simplyn2deep did a fantastic job with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and then your mods dropped the ball. Sorry, we're entirely fallible and have a deep seeded love of porn. Sometimes these things get in the way.

I'm going to try and pick up the ball again! I'm going to list out holidays that I know of, I don't mean to slight anyone, I do live in a tiny little world and am not really schooled in holidays that happen outside of Massachusetts (although I'm not all that schooled in holidays that necessarily happen within Massachusetts either). The point of my ramble is that I want you all to chime in with holidays that I've left off the list below, and please provide the date of said holiday. I'd also like people to volunteer for any holiday they'd like to post about.

Pumpkins and Llamas? Which I first read as pumpkins and limas???

Pumpkins and Llamas! You know! The perfect combination! ie: Steve and Danny go together like pumpkins and llamas.

However limas are not such a great combination with pumpkins, it might be pretty coloring though.

It's a family thing, the kids save their quarters, we go feed the llamas at a local farm, and then we pick out our pumpkins.

I could do Pearl Harbor day - December 7th. I had the honor of interviewing several WWII veterans when I was a reporter, and a couple of friends had grandparents who were there or were part of the D-Day invasion, so it's of interest to me.

I got the date wrong, it's the 15th and not the 22nd, but I did look and it is celebrated in Maine where they call it Patriot's Day and not Patriots' Day. Apparently it's a thing, and yes, I am a geek!

OK, since I gave most of these to you, I guess I kinda roped myself into them, but if any of the other Kiwis have fondnesses, I will step down and let them have at, but until then:

Queen's B'day (incidentally dunno if Britain celebrates it then or not - that was NZ's date for it), Labour Day, Auckland Anniversary Day and Waitangi Day (next year since I dropped the ball this year).

I will also volunteer for Talk Like a Pirate Day if no one else wants it!

I'm surprised that April 19th isn't a holiday in Massachusetts since that is the day when the shot was heard around the world aka the Battle of Lexington and Concord. It's also my birthday, so if you want to add it to the list I'll be happy to whip something up.

I'd be interested in St. Patrick's Day and Veteran's Day.

That is Patriots' Day, and it is celebrated on a Monday. Of course now that I look at it, it way be the 3rd Monday instead of the 4th. Just looked, yep, it's the 15th this year. bluedelft signed up for it. But you are absolutely in for St. Patrick's and Veterans! Thank you!!!

I think I'm gonna take Easter Sunday, if that's alright! I'd like a holiday that is special to me, and that would either be Easter or Christmas, and as much as I'd like the latter, I am tempted to do the former (Plus, I think I'd forget if I signed up for Christmas).

Hungarian Revolution of 1848 - March 15th
The foundation of the Hungarian state by Saint Stephen - August 20th
Hungarian Revolution of 1956 - October 23rd

We have others but this 3 is the main + Easter Sunday and Monday, All Saints' Day - November 1st and Christmas which is 3 days long, December 24-26th. These are the most important and celebrated in my country.

I'm not entirely sure when the Queen's birthday is this year, it always being a random Saturday in June, but we don't celebrate it in the UK unless it's a milestone. I think there's Trooping of the Colour but generally the day passes without anyone noticing.

I'll take Boxing Day, although I may need a reminder :)
