awesome Monday.jpg

Here we go! It's another Monday, so it's another chance to be AWESOME, right?

It's my first time on the schedule for Mondays, so bear with me while I find my feet! As I am ahead of most of you timewise, I have the luxury of looking back at today's achievements and deciding on how Tuesday to Sunday are going to look, as I've decided it's easiest to post so most people will see it first thing on Monday for them.

So how did my Monday go, you ask? Well, after a very wet weekend, I woke up to warm temperatures and 99% humidity... phew! Let me just say how grateful I was for the air-conditioning at work when I arrived, which is not how I normally feel as a/c tends to screw with my sinuses, but there you go; it's all relative! I managed to get quite a bit done at work today, so I feel good about that, but so far have done no writing, apart from a post in my own journal (half of which I wrote last Friday, I must admit).

For the rest of this week though, I'm hoping to get back to some words! We had a new member of our household arrive a little over a week ago - a Golden Retriever puppy called Remus - and things seem to have been pretty chaotic since! But I am slowly getting back on track - I think - and my daughter, who belongs to the puppy(!), is getting him into something of a routine in preparation for her own return to university after the summer break here in NZ. She has two weeks to have everything sorted... am I hoping too much? *bites lip*

Now it's your turn, so tell me what wonderful things are you looking forward to in the next week? Is it going to be all about the words? Or are other things happening that you can share with us?

Here are the reminders and other things you need to help kick you off for the week:

1 – FLASH CHALLENGE – Your amazing Monday prompt is - NEW PUPPY! Give me 100 words or a graphic for the fabulous sake of saying you’ve done it!

2 – Reminder of last week’s challenges:

BINGO cards are here - WotD Enfant Terrible - F - WotD Patrician - WWoW
WotD Heartsome - 203 - WotD Paralipsis - WC Valentine's Day - Say What
WotD Horsefeathers - WotD Abbreviate - WotD Nonviolence - Bingo Check-in

And 3 – Big Buddy 43% - Are you all on schedule?

wait...what?! I'm supposed to have that many words written by today?!

Damn, I'm behind. I'm going to see if I can get some writing on Monday after class. I did, however, get 300-something words done today (Sunday), but I don't know how much that brings my monthly total up to.

sigh. school man. it messes with everything!

I'm slightly ahead on word count. A lot of my writing time this weekend was spent re-ordering the scenes of my 2015 NaNoWriMo as part of the revision process. It didn't generate too many words but I'll have a "to do" list of scenes that need writing/re-writing once I'm done :)

This week, I have to finalize things for a State monitoring visit at work. They won't be looking at the paperwork side of things this time around (which is what I'm mostly responsible), but the technical side. Still I have 3 appointments to get on the calendar before the end of the day today & it's a little nervewracking. Just have to keep reminding myself that it's not my first time at this rodeo & that things will get done.

Writing-wise, I'll be finishing up a 2x2 Bingo card and may delve into starting to re-assemble my NaNo project from 2015 & 2016 into a decent draft.

I'm currently at 5595 for the month. Looks like I'll be upping my goal again come March.

Not a fan of the humidity (it'll be soupy around here come June), but I wouldn't mind a little of the warmth - seems like it's in the teens here right now.

Congrats on the puppy!

(I have my brother to thank for the underlying idea as he was surprised by the arrival of a new puppy into his household a few months ago)

The sound didn’t register at first, high pitched, almost a squeak. Maybe the washing machine was acting up again. Out of the corner of his eye, Jerry saw something, a brown blur streaking toward him. He nearly jumped, but whatever it was, grabbed hold of his pants leg with its teeth. He bent down, staring into the face of a weird-looking creature that some people might describe as a puppy, but he would describe as a demon. This was very different than sweet old Juniper that devastated his roommate Cleo when she crossed the Rainbow Bridge three months ago.

Footsteps padded into the kitchen. “Guess what I got!” Cleo said. “His name is Octavius. Isn’t he great?”

The puppy looked more like a Nero than an Octavius, but Jerry wasn’t going to argue with her. He watched as she picked up the puppy and cuddled it.

“I thought you were going to wait.”

“Well, I was, but I found myself out by the Humane Society earlier today and I just took a chance.”

“Great,” he said.

The door swung open and Octavius squirmed out of Cleo’s arms, landing on the floor and making a beeline for the exit. “Richie, stop him!” yelled Jerry.

Richie looked confused and then jumped as the puppy streaked past him. “What the heck was that?”

“Cleo’s new best friend.”

“Wasn’t she going to wait?”

“I’ll tell you later. C’mon!” Jerry and Richie ran three blocks before they stumbled upon Octavius yipping at a much larger dog. Jerry reached down and picked up the wriggling pup, getting himself nipped in the process.

“That’s a dog? It looks like a weasel.”

“Its name is Octavius.”

“You’re kidding.”

“I am not.”

“Is she happy?”

“It’s a boy. And I don’t know.”

“No, I meant Cleo.”

“She’s flipping ecstatic and also quite nuts.”

“At least it’s a puppy and not a baby.”

“True enough,” Jerry said. He scratched Octavius on the top of the head. “Welcome to the family, little guy.”

I spent 8.5 hrs (thus 8.5k more to the count) yesterday finishing the book cover, uploading the book formats to be published, tweaking, reuploading...figuring out why my pdf conversions weren't embedding the fonts...

So now publication is pending technical review of the files and (if all goes well) my review of the electronic proofs...

So watch this space for dates ;)

In the meantime, my head and neck hurt...my daughter's life is still a mess...god knows what this week will be like...class and a work thing next Saturday...

So I'm glad I'm at 33k...like a week ahead in my count *whew*

I figured out the head/neck thing...lack of caffeine all weekend. Soon as I consumed some this morning, it went away. lol.

Word count is my life...so...lol

Oh heck now - warm and THAT humid? YUCK. But I feel you. Generally, I'm freezing in the AC but during monsoon season when it's 110F or hotter and raining, you want to hurt someone.

I hope that the puppy (and all of you) get settled before the kid goes back to school! Enjoy him though, they can be such a joy. :)

Not much on the horizon here this week. I finished a bingo amnesty challenge for another comm that I need to get posted. After that, I need to get started on our bingo and a bunch of old challenges I haven't finished. *sigh* But at least it gives me lots and lots to do.

I'm about 1400 words shy of where I should be for Big Buddy, but if I buckle down, I can knock that out without any problem. But if I add in my icons, I'm probably right on track.

ETA: PUPPY ICONS!

Sometimes, when life is rough (like when the new phones don't freaking WORK) I like to look at all the puppies on pinterest. 5 minute puppy break happens a lot!

My younger daughter follows about 15 different cat accounts on Instagram for that reason. I keep thinking I should make icons out of all the bunnies you keep sending me!

(I've been there with the phones - the last time they "fixed" them, they broke my intercom so I have to go walking to find whoever the call is for...)

I can't even imagine. Hopefully it dries up some for you soon.

Wonderful! Goldens are very smart dogs and generally very well-behaved (if a bit excitable), so good luck!

Thank you! Hahaha - the third one cracked me up when I saw it. The golden I picked for you, the clumber for K, and the black lab in honor of my in-laws' lab, Deke. :D

Thank you!

Tried to post, but it only created a blank space and didn't include my text. Let's try again...

Ah, well, my original post was longer and had more detail. Maybe LJ ate it to spare everyone. Lol. Here's what I'm up to this week!
- Fandom: Weekend Challenge (H, I am on it!)
- Fandom: H50 Big Bang- start on art work for my assigned writer/story
- Japanese lessons - catch up before class Friday night. Missed last week due to 'I'm too tired'
- Running - logged over five miles this past weekend, need to log @11 miles this week, training for an April race. I'm late getting going. :(
- Get more sleep- supposed to sleep more when running, and baby I am feeling it when I don't, now. Need to sleep at least one extra hour per night.
- Have things to do after work Thurs and Friday

I think I see why I'm not getting many words in lately - everything else is eating up my writing energy. That's okay - the art work should count for something, and I am still hoping to get some bingo words down.

Yes - BINGO! I am going to write some bingo tonight, or I'll be annoyed with myself.

I know- I've overdone it this winter/spring again. I am good at that.

And happily, LJ eating my text seems to be a Chrome thing- fine in other browsers. I was afraid maybe the DW/LJ link was breaking down, lol.

My big plans for the week are fairly simple and yet convoluted all at once. A new phone system was installed last week and, ICK, a full day of no problems is my goal this week. As our phones have been out for 3 or so hours now, I'm not too hopeful. HOWEVER, I get to leave 2 hours early on Friday, and then head out for dinner (read: 3 or so drinks), followed by Black Panther and then no work on Monday. Perhaps there will be words!

LOVE YOU!!! AWESOME JOB!!! YAY NEW PUPPY!

I feel your pain with the humidity. It will soon be here for me, I hope. I'm getting sick of the rainy cold weather. I moved to Texas to stay warm in the winter not to freeze.

Yay for new puppy!

Hopefully, the cyclone isn't too bad or has blown itself out before reaching you.

It's suppose to warm up tomorrow, but it will be rainy, oh well... Rain is much better than snow.

Goldens are sweet and very trainable dogs.

I forgot to mention that I'm gonna try to get some words written this week, if it kills.

I am hoping to stay on track with my words this next week as I actually have been the past week. I managed to get up and stay up at 1 o'clock in the morning every day I could write before going to work except for one, and even got up and stayed up at 1:30 that time after not getting to bed on time the night before, AND I got my word count in EVERY DAY FINALLY!!! After most of January and the start of February being buggered majorly where my words are concerned, and having slept far too much during that time, it's felt really good to stay on top of my goals this past week! I can only pray I can keep it up!!

I also want to thank you for this new prompt. I have a tendency to scan LJ when I'm eating breakfast, and the new prompt couldn't have come down at a better time! It instantly inspired a fic! I just haven't had time to post it quite yet. So thank you! :)
