Awesome Monday!
Feb. 12th, 2018 07:42 pm
Here we go! It's another Monday, so it's another chance to be AWESOME, right?
It's my first time on the schedule for Mondays, so bear with me while I find my feet! As I am ahead of most of you timewise, I have the luxury of looking back at today's achievements and deciding on how Tuesday to Sunday are going to look, as I've decided it's easiest to post so most people will see it first thing on Monday for them.
So how did my Monday go, you ask? Well, after a very wet weekend, I woke up to warm temperatures and 99% humidity... phew! Let me just say how grateful I was for the air-conditioning at work when I arrived, which is not how I normally feel as a/c tends to screw with my sinuses, but there you go; it's all relative! I managed to get quite a bit done at work today, so I feel good about that, but so far have done no writing, apart from a post in my own journal (half of which I wrote last Friday, I must admit).
For the rest of this week though, I'm hoping to get back to some words! We had a new member of our household arrive a little over a week ago - a Golden Retriever puppy called Remus - and things seem to have been pretty chaotic since! But I am slowly getting back on track - I think - and my daughter, who belongs to the puppy(!), is getting him into something of a routine in preparation for her own return to university after the summer break here in NZ. She has two weeks to have everything sorted... am I hoping too much? *bites lip*
Now it's your turn, so tell me what wonderful things are you looking forward to in the next week? Is it going to be all about the words? Or are other things happening that you can share with us?
Here are the reminders and other things you need to help kick you off for the week:
1 – FLASH CHALLENGE – Your amazing Monday prompt is - NEW PUPPY! Give me 100 words or a graphic for the fabulous sake of saying you’ve done it!
2 – Reminder of last week’s challenges:
WotD Heartsome - 203 - WotD Paralipsis - WC Valentine's Day - Say What
WotD Horsefeathers - WotD Abbreviate - WotD Nonviolence - Bingo Check-in
And 3 – Big Buddy 43% - Are you all on schedule?

C'MON, LET’S ROCK THIS WEEK!!!!

Date: 2018-02-12 07:18 am (UTC)Damn, I'm behind. I'm going to see if I can get some writing on Monday after class. I did, however, get 300-something words done today (Sunday), but I don't know how much that brings my monthly total up to.
sigh. school man. it messes with everything!

Date: 2018-02-12 12:26 pm (UTC)Writing-wise, I'll be finishing up a 2x2 Bingo card and may delve into starting to re-assemble my NaNo project from 2015 & 2016 into a decent draft.
I'm currently at 5595 for the month. Looks like I'll be upping my goal again come March.
Not a fan of the humidity (it'll be soupy around here come June), but I wouldn't mind a little of the warmth - seems like it's in the teens here right now.
Congrats on the puppy!

Date: 2018-02-12 08:21 pm (UTC)Yay for all the bingo work, and good luck for the Nano drafts!
Your count is FANTASTIC! Congrats on more than surpassing where you hoped to be right now!
Yes, the humdity is very hard to handle - we get that in summer and just dampness in winter in my part of NZ, so I sometimes wonder why I live here!!! But on a good sunny day I remember... so if I could just have one soon I'd appreciate it! It's high 20's C here at the moment, which is high 70's to low 80's in F - not that hot, but coupled with the high humidity it's a killer! And we have more wet weather and storms coming...
Thank you - the puppy is gorgeous, but so tiring!!! ;-)
NEW PUPPY - 332 words
Date: 2018-02-13 02:10 am (UTC)The sound didn’t register at first, high pitched, almost a squeak. Maybe the washing machine was acting up again. Out of the corner of his eye, Jerry saw something, a brown blur streaking toward him. He nearly jumped, but whatever it was, grabbed hold of his pants leg with its teeth. He bent down, staring into the face of a weird-looking creature that some people might describe as a puppy, but he would describe as a demon. This was very different than sweet old Juniper that devastated his roommate Cleo when she crossed the Rainbow Bridge three months ago.
Footsteps padded into the kitchen. “Guess what I got!” Cleo said. “His name is Octavius. Isn’t he great?”
The puppy looked more like a Nero than an Octavius, but Jerry wasn’t going to argue with her. He watched as she picked up the puppy and cuddled it.
“I thought you were going to wait.”
“Well, I was, but I found myself out by the Humane Society earlier today and I just took a chance.”
“Great,” he said.
The door swung open and Octavius squirmed out of Cleo’s arms, landing on the floor and making a beeline for the exit. “Richie, stop him!” yelled Jerry.
Richie looked confused and then jumped as the puppy streaked past him. “What the heck was that?”
“Cleo’s new best friend.”
“Wasn’t she going to wait?”
“I’ll tell you later. C’mon!” Jerry and Richie ran three blocks before they stumbled upon Octavius yipping at a much larger dog. Jerry reached down and picked up the wriggling pup, getting himself nipped in the process.
“That’s a dog? It looks like a weasel.”
“Its name is Octavius.”
“You’re kidding.”
“I am not.”
“Is she happy?”
“It’s a boy. And I don’t know.”
“No, I meant Cleo.”
“She’s flipping ecstatic and also quite nuts.”
“At least it’s a puppy and not a baby.”
“True enough,” Jerry said. He scratched Octavius on the top of the head. “Welcome to the family, little guy.”

Date: 2018-02-12 01:35 pm (UTC)So now publication is pending technical review of the files and (if all goes well) my review of the electronic proofs...
So watch this space for dates ;)
In the meantime, my head and neck hurt...my daughter's life is still a mess...god knows what this week will be like...class and a work thing next Saturday...
So I'm glad I'm at 33k...like a week ahead in my count *whew*

Date: 2018-02-12 08:25 pm (UTC)Good luck with the novel - I look forward to hearing it's all go!
Look out for the head and neck issues; I hope they resolve, and I hope things improve for your daughter soon too. *hugs*

Date: 2018-02-12 05:16 pm (UTC)I hope that the puppy (and all of you) get settled before the kid goes back to school! Enjoy him though, they can be such a joy. :)
Not much on the horizon here this week. I finished a bingo amnesty challenge for another comm that I need to get posted. After that, I need to get started on our bingo and a bunch of old challenges I haven't finished. *sigh* But at least it gives me lots and lots to do.
I'm about 1400 words shy of where I should be for Big Buddy, but if I buckle down, I can knock that out without any problem. But if I add in my icons, I'm probably right on track.
ETA: PUPPY ICONS!

Date: 2018-02-12 08:29 pm (UTC)Thanks - the puppy is showing signs of being easily trainable, so hopefully he'll learn to be quiet when he's alone and we'll be good!
You do have lots to do, but I know you can do it! And the puppy icons are ADORABLE! I especially like the 3rd and last ones (that last is just like Remus, minus the coat!!!).

Date: 2018-02-12 08:48 pm (UTC)Wonderful! Goldens are very smart dogs and generally very well-behaved (if a bit excitable), so good luck!
Thank you! Hahaha - the third one cracked me up when I saw it. The golden I picked for you, the clumber for K, and the black lab in honor of my in-laws' lab, Deke. :D

Hmmm....
Date: 2018-02-12 07:00 pm (UTC)Ah, well, my original post was longer and had more detail. Maybe LJ ate it to spare everyone. Lol. Here's what I'm up to this week!
- Fandom: Weekend Challenge (H, I am on it!)
- Fandom: H50 Big Bang- start on art work for my assigned writer/story
- Japanese lessons - catch up before class Friday night. Missed last week due to 'I'm too tired'
- Running - logged over five miles this past weekend, need to log @11 miles this week, training for an April race. I'm late getting going. :(
- Get more sleep- supposed to sleep more when running, and baby I am feeling it when I don't, now. Need to sleep at least one extra hour per night.
- Have things to do after work Thurs and Friday
I think I see why I'm not getting many words in lately - everything else is eating up my writing energy. That's okay - the art work should count for something, and I am still hoping to get some bingo words down.
Re: Hmmm....
Date: 2018-02-12 08:33 pm (UTC)YAY! Weekend Challenge sorted *ticks own list* Thank you!
Ooooh, H50 BB art - good luck! And phew, hearing about all that learning and exercise has worn me out and I'm not even involved - no wonder you need extra sleep! I hope you get it!
GO BINGO! ;-)
Re: Hmmm....
Date: 2018-02-12 09:43 pm (UTC)I know- I've overdone it this winter/spring again. I am good at that.
And happily, LJ eating my text seems to be a Chrome thing- fine in other browsers. I was afraid maybe the DW/LJ link was breaking down, lol.
Re: Hmmm....
Date: 2018-02-12 09:46 pm (UTC)You are, but I also know you will manage it; you're very organised most of the time!
Phew; thank goodness for that!

Date: 2018-02-12 10:21 pm (UTC)It's suppose to warm up tomorrow, but it will be rainy, oh well... Rain is much better than snow.
Goldens are sweet and very trainable dogs.
I forgot to mention that I'm gonna try to get some words written this week, if it kills.

Date: 2018-02-13 02:31 am (UTC)I also hope you get the warmed up day and not too much rain, but you're right about the snow!
They do seem to be, going from our experience already!
You will do the words, I know it! ;-)
