awesome Monday.jpg

Well hello there! Are you feeling very awesome today? Very excited for the upcoming week? Month? Year?

I know, I know, slow down. Baby steps. So let’s start with doing Amazing Mondays again! I KNOW, RIGHT? I’m all asquee!!!

I need to send out a very special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sharpiesgal for picking up the torch and running with it for so long. YOU ROCK!!!

Moving forward we’re going to bounce it around between a few of us, and hopefully we’ll be getting things in full swing again!

Now, tell me, what wonderful things are you looking forward to in the next week? Are you making all the words? Do you have a day off with big doings planned?

What's up with me this week? In less than a week I hit my 10 year anniversary at work. I’ve had a few jobs in my life and two of them were with companies that I ended up staying with for 11 years. So that’s a bit of a tick in my brain. I’ve never worked anywhere longer than 11 years. Hitting 10 makes it feel like I might be coming up to that 11 year itch. Although, to be honest, I’m not feeling all that itchy. Both of the others I was very itchy at 10. I like my job, I feel like my boss thinks I do a good job, better than others he’s run into. When I asked for help, I was able to hire someone, when I need more help I’m given the go-ahead to give my assistant more hours. I feel valued and appreciated, so I’m kind of excited to be moving into the 11th year without the itch. Now, if only I could find time for words! *headdesk*

We are switching things up a bit with our Monday posts.

1 – FLASH CHALLLENGE – Your amazing Monday prompt is - MAGNIFICENT Give me 100 words or a graphic for the fabulous sake of saying you’ve done it!

It is 1:53 a.m. and I have to be up for school in 3 hours and 22 minutes. It's the first day of spring semester and my first class is at 8 a.m. Ha! Omg!

But I'm looking forward to it

When I get home I'll see if I can get out around 1000 words before tackling my homework.

I think I got at least 3 hours. I don't remember if I went to sleep right after the comment but I woke up on time and now I'm sitting at the bus stop...

Now I'm looking forward to taking a nap, either on the way home or I get home lol

Also in my sleepy state I missed the stuff about you! Congrats on the work achievement! I've only worked one place for a long time and that was right out of high school until my church closed, so for 13 years. I haven't had a stable job since then.

I'm up to 2010 on my Word Count so I'm glad I upped my challenge from last month.

This Tuesday, the church choir that I am part of is singing the National Anthem at a St Louis Blues game. I'm a huge hockey fan (if you couldn't tell by some of my writing) so this is a pretty big deal.

Congrats on your work anniversary- ten years is a big deal. I'll admit I'm jealous that your boss let you hire an assistant. When I asked for help, he mumbled something about making sure his assistant (who wouldn't be my first choice) was cross trained on my job and then promptly forgot about it.

Off to work on the flash prompt.

Magnificent

He woke up at 3AM. When he was at Penicton, it was a nightly occurrence. Most nights he’d just roll over and go back to sleep. Here at Somerset, he wanted to do something else. He rolled out of bed, pulled on a jacket and a pair of jeans and slipped shoes on his feet. He opened his door and locked it behind him before heading down the stairs to the front door. The attendant at the front desk barely gave him a glance as he slipped out into the night. There was a chill in the air that filled his lungs as he inhaled. It was magnificent, reminding him of that first step onto the ice that he’d imagined so many times. He glanced up into the night sky, looking at the myriad of stars. He hadn’t done this since he was a kid and went camping with the Boy Scouts. He didn’t know a thing about the constellations other than Orion’s Belt and the Big Dipper, but tonight it didn’t matter. What mattered was that he was able to do this. What mattered was that he was free.

Thank you. These prompts have been great for helping to flesh out my 2015 NaNo novel in places where it needs more description or action- after over a decade of writing screenplays, transitioning to a novel results in the first draft being somewhat sparse as far as description is concerned.

Beautifully descriptive! Nicely done.

Thank you!

I looked at it in my email this morning and realized that it was in 3rd person- the rest of the novel is in first. So it'll be another chance to edit before adding it. A lot of the exercises and practice writing I do for it are in third person, so maybe the universe is trying to tell me something with the next draft.

Or it'll just be fanfic for my own original story.

The job I'm at now, I've technically been at 9 years- it has ebbs and flows and I'm lucky right now that we're hitting a slower period. I usually get the wanderlust around year 6, but it doesn't seem to be happening now.

Oh how awesome for you and your choir! I love hockey, despite having been raised in the desert. BUT - we have an actual NHL TEAM NOW! :D

It was my pleasure to help out.

Congrats on the work anniversary. I'm not far behind you. My tenth with Wally World is in May.

Not many words right now, but plenty of ideas.

Anybody needs a plot bunny or three, I've got several busy munching carrots just waiting to help folks out with their evilness. ;)

Holy moly, remind me to send you a purple heart for that work achievement. :D

Ideas are good though, words don't come without them. Hopefully the words catch up to your ideas.

I'd say sure, hit me with a plot bunny, but I'm eyeball deep in another one of yours so... :D

Hah! I need to post the first chapter at least - it'll motivate me to finish it.

I'm seriously LMAO at your disclaimer at the bottom. Hah!

Congrats on the upcoming anniversary! I've been at this job for 20 years now and, although there are days when I want to BURN IT ALL DOWN, I'm extremely lucky to work for the people that I do. It makes me happy to know that you enjoy your job and are as comfortable as you are with it. :D

Er - not quite to where I should be for Big Buddy, but I'm only about 1k shy, which is easy enough for me to make up. That's part of my goal for the week. The rest is finishing this darn library book so I can move on!

Happy Monday y'all!

ETA: I'm being work-avoidant and now you have five icons (https://asphaltcowgrrl.livejournal.com/250894.html)!

Hah! But it all worked out, so we're good.

I know. When I started this job, I wasn't married and didn't have kids. Now I have a 16 year old and one ready to graduate. HELP ME. :D I think that really helps though - when you know that they're good to you and usually good at helping you work through whatever has got you holding the match.

Thanks! :)

Holy moly, why is it so expensive to fly to Cali? Or rather, why is it the same as leaving the country? That would be an amazing trip though. Hopefully, once the kids are out of the house or, at least, both in college, we can do some traveling like that. I've never been outside the US.

I'm pretty close to my 18% for the month - thanks to the weekend challenge prompts from a couple of weeks ago that popped a bunch of bunnies for me.

I'm hoping to finish up a fic this week and get back to my symmetrina. And maybe pick up a WIP, too, though I think that one's going to need some research.

I also signed up to do some artwork of one kind or another for the H50 Big Bang - looking forward to picking a fic to create something for.

Other thing I'm looking forward to is March being another week closer, lol. 42 days until spring!

not sure why work is so crazy right now...its been like non stop since the beginning of January.
But I did make it to 10k tonight...some RP writing, some NaNo editing, and some final touchups to the formatting of the soon to be published book...

So that's something.

No idea what the rest of the week will bring except more craziness.

You have been there that long already? Wow, I remember when you finished the last one!!! We have been friends now for something like 13 years!!!  And I just passed my 25th anniversary in my workplace, 20 years in the same actual job there last July. I feel so old some days...

I have been so not awesome this week because of puppy-related things (I'm exhausted and he's not even my main responsibility!!!) and starting back at work after 2 & 1/2 weeks away, a funeral and some running around. So no words yet and I haven't even followed up with my monthly challengers to set up any kind of schedule for March onwards (sorry everyone), but will get to that as soon as I can.

After a difficult Thursday at work, being awesome for the rest of this week will just involve getting thru tomorrow without further issue, and then coming home to relax in front of tv with a stiff drink, I think!  Next week will hopefully be better!

You're probably right! I can't even remember! I went online in 2005, and my LJ anniversary is the end of May (13 years this year), so I'm thinking it was probably shortly after that. It does seem longer though!

This week is shaping up better than last, apart from the weather, and Remus is doing well!

I know that feeling!!! ;-)

a short little 'across the room' scene taken from a bigger work between Frank Castle and Jessica Jones...

No spoilers and no warnings necessary:

That’s just magnificent, yeah? Frank muttered to himself, spotting Jessica across the room as he tugged at the uncomfortable collar of the suit he’d agreed to wear to this thing. While he didn’t have anything against weddings…or against Valentine’s Day…both brought back uncomfortable, unpleasant memories of things he’d rather not think about. Only Cassie begging him to come as part of the family she was coaxing him ever deeper into had convinced him, though he’d been pretty damned sure he was going to hate every minute of being here. Only his hopes of running into Murdock had provided enough incentive to push him to accept.

Knowing Jessica would be here might have helped sway his decision too, but honestly, he had not thought she’d bother to show up. She looked as uncomfortable in this place as he felt…and that was saying something. She seemed the sort to not really be comfortable anywhere.

As for Frank, that was a skill he was working on.

He caught her eye across the room and nodded. That was greeting enough, wasn’t it? Mind-blowing sex didn’t mean they had obligations…did it? If she wanted to talk to him, she would. And the day was still young. Plenty of time for that. Yeah, he thought again, heading straight for the bar. Plenty of time.
