As luck would have it, James had had the foresight to purchase a box of donuts. In a second bout of precaution, he had also hidden the donuts in the pantry where Reyes wouldn’t think to look for them in the middle of the night. James handed over a mug of hot coffee to go with the delightful assortment of pastries.
Zeklos accepted his cup warily. “There’s nothing but coffee in here, right?”
“The only thing to cure a hangover baby,” Zayne said from beside him, “is a little hair of the dog.”
“I’d rather have hair from an actual dog than more alcohol right now.” He wasn’t sure if he’d survive the day if he had anything stronger than a ginger ale.
“Boy Scout’s honor,” James chuckled, taking the empty seat on the other side of Andrej. “Nothing more than coffee, sugar, and cream in these cups.”
“Until tonight,” Reyes mumbled.
James reached around Zeklos’ back and poked Zayne in the shoulder. “He’s not supposed to know that, remember?”
“Ohhh,” Zayne said, eyes wide. “Right, I forgot.”
“I’m going to go home and leave him stranded here with you,” Andrej threatened James.
“I could spend the night with him,” Reyes said, giving the redhead a suggestive once over.
“Your virginity might not survive another liquor soaked night, my love,” Zeklos said, giving Reyes a pointed look.
Zayne opened his mouth to argue and James stuffed a donut inside it. “Chew and don’t speak. Anything you say can and will be held against you later. Just saying.”
“You two are awful,” Andrej reminded them for what felt like the millionth time since they’d all found some common ground. Seeing the two of them goofing off and playing around like they’d been friends for years warmed Zeklos’ heart and stirred things low in his belly. He licked a bit of icing off his fingers and sighed. He was officially in love with two of the biggest children he’d ever met and oddly enough, he wouldn’t change a damn thing. Except maybe the amount of clothing they were all wearing because it was suddenly getting really warm in the room.
