Yay for progress! I do agree though - when they're older works, you really do need to do a read through and tweak it a bit before you can work on it.
I think that it should start with something you're familiar with in some way, and then build on that. Even if the thing you 'know' are interpersonal relationships or cooking or whatever. That way, you have a bit of a basis of fact to branch out on.
