I mostly write romance of varying kinds, which I also like to read.
However, my favorite genres to read are fantasy and mystery/thriller (police procedurals, psychological thriller, etc.), which I don't write. Why? Well, I don't have the mental capacity to write well thought out fantasy. The world building alone is immense. And as for mysteries... I'm not smart enough (shhhh...) to plot a twisty mystery nor do I know enough about how police departments operate. I know I could research the last, but the first keeps me from it. LOL I have attempted a few mysteries, and they're fine, but they're not great plot-wise either.
I've also found myself wanting to write some hockey romance, but I don't feel like I've got a good enough grip on the game, how it works, or the slang to pull it off. *sighs*
