Fandom Squee Days 12 & 13: New Fandoms!

Ack. So we got a little off of our daily posting. Somehow the entry for the weekend never got posted and I just realized it. So excuse the slight extra dose of fandom squee as we get caught up.

Remember, too, you can come squee at any time you want, from now up until the first couple weeks of December (since we know many of you are Nano'ing). It's never too late to squee!

So let's move on to the late weekend fandom squee:

NEW FANDOMS!

('New' being a relative term. It doesn't have to be a fandom that just appeared. It could be an old fandom that is new to you.)

For me, the newest fandom that I've actually done fandom things with is probably the Avengers Academy video game (or, well, mobile game). OMG you guys. This game is the cutest. It's a ton of the different Marvel characters all imagined as teenagers going to college, and the interactions are just adorable. You basically make your way through the storylines and unlock characters and buildings and rank people and things up. I mean, you don't do a ton, but somehow I am super obsessed with it.

My newest fandoms in terms of things I am watching that I really am loving and am wanting to do fandom things with but haven't yet are probably Conviction (which, of course, is practically cancelled already, but I'll take what I can get), which is about a group that looks at old cases that are being appealed to see if they think the convictions should be kept or overturned, and The Good Place, which is so, so cute and I love it so much. Kristen Bell is adorable as Eleanor, who was sent to 'The Good Place' by mistake after she died, and the show is constantly making me laugh.

So tell me now — what are your new fandoms? What do you like about them, why should other people watch them/read them/play them? Come tell us, and maybe you'll make someone a convert!

On my way off to work but thought I'd put in my two cents :)

New fandoms (still with new episodes): Dark Matter (I love, love, love this show - created by Stargate alum), Madame Secretary - just found this on Netflix although I'd heard about it. Tea Leoni is awesome as is Bebe Neurwith (Lilith from cheers), iZombie - so funny. I've dipped my toe into Hawaii Five-0 as well.

New old fandoms that we've finished watching and enjoyed - Person of Interest, The 4400

I'm sure there are others but I'm out of time, LOL

I haven't dabbled in anything off from my usual lately...aside from Westworld which is really twisting my mind (and I get to drool over Ben Barnes, so that's always a plus)

So I guess my newest fandoms are Outsiders (done by the same folks who brought us Sons of Anarchy) which is really intense and gives me weekly doses of Joe Anderson...) Outcast (another creation by Robert Kirkman...of Walking Dead fame)...which carries over the supernatural aspect from Buffy/Supernatural but in a genuinely creepy, Kirkman fashion...and Preacher...which I absolutely adore and can't wait for the second season.

Looking forward to S2 of all of them actually...

Ben Barnes is in Westworld? *pricks up head*

he's a bit of a rascal/bad guy...but it makes him all the more interesting :D It's nice to see him once a week :D

We just recently watched the first episode of Conviction and really liked it, so of course, it'll get cancelled. *headdesk*

The only *new* fandom I've gotten into lately has been Hawaii Five-0 and I'm not sure I have to encourage anyone here to get into that? Hah. But I love the dynamic not just between Steve and Danny, but the whole crew, both Five-0 and otherwise. I need to start season 3 here soon.

Hmm, I'm always trying new things, but I watch a ton of stuff and don't necessarily want to write anything!

My last pick-up that I have attempted writing is Shadowhunters... I'm a sucker for a pretty face and the guy who plays Alec is too pretty for words (see icon). I've now read all the Mortal Instruments books that the movie and now show are based on (and need to delve more into Magnus Bane, the prequels and the new sequels Cassandra Clare is just starting in on), and feel like I could get behind writing more, so here's hoping!

Otherwise, I'm way behind on so many things people keep talking about, but there's definitely new shows I need to check out, like Preacher, Westworld (maybe?), etc.

Oh, a British one we're just getting into S2 of is Humans, which is awesome - although I doubt I'll fic it.

Westworld is a trip...possibly too confusing for some, but for those of us who follow Dr. Who storylines, its no more mindbending than those lol.

I know a few people who couldn't get into Preacher (who do like the comics) but I love it (maybe because I haven't read the comics?)

Magnus Bane is my favorite character on Shadowhunters. Clary drives me nuts for some reason, but I watch for Magnus, so it works ;)

Ah, I can cope with confusing (my hubby would be lost, but I usually cope!)

I haven't read it either, but when I saw that Dominic Cooper was in it, I thought it might be good for me!

I agree - Magnus makes Shadowhunters completely worth putting up with Clary. She annoys the heck out of me too, but the Malec scenes and anything at all with Magnus make it better. I like all the side characters way better than the lead two in the show and in the books too, for what it's worth!

Movie Clary was less annoying to me than TV Clary...but she still seems so...Mary Sue?...that it just bothers me to no end. I thought I was the only one who found her annoying lol.

I'm glad I gave Preacher a shot...I thought the commercials looked awesome and was hooked easily. I so want a storyline with Jesse Custer, John Constantine, and Lucifer (from the TV show Lucifer)...but I haven't come up with one yet. That would be an awesome crossover lol

So a friend and I have been doing a long-distance anime swap, where we each picked a favorite of ours to introduce to the other and watch in Skype calls. I chose G Gundam and she's taken to it well so far. She chose the Fate series. We've just finished Fate/zero, and against my better judgment I am in love. It didn't take much for me to find my favorite pair, and my thoughts are basically "I could probably dig it as a ship, but I assure you, it does not need to be romantic in order for me to cry over their bond, also they are soulmates (at least in a platonic sense) and I will fight you over that"

For anyone interested, it's not long at all, but it's very intense (and gets kind of gory in places), and the first episode or two is pretty dense in infodump, but basically the idea is modern-day mages warring for the Holy Grail, where each one is able to summon the spirit of a legendary hero to fight for them. It's dark and involved and painful and ridiculous and I love it.

(Granted, I can only speak to the anime. There is also a manga, and I understand the original was a visual novel/video game.)
