RARE PAIR CHALLENGE!!!

So I'm late, but... IT'S RARE PAIR MONTH!!!

I do love the idea of rare pairs. It's one of my fav things! The problem I find is that some pairs occur to be by the way the writers write them in canon or the way they snark. But a lot of others just don't occur to me. I'm just conditioned that when I think Inception I think Arthur/Eames and Yusuf/Mal never crosses my mind. It happens with every fandom I play in. I just can't see beyond my nose until someone adjusts my glasses.

So let's chat for a bit about fandoms and rare pairs. Leave a suggestion of a rare pair from a fandom or seven, leave a suggestion of a scenario, leave a prompt, leave an image.

Also - This year let's not define rare pairs as what is rare to fandom, but what is rare for you. If you've always shipped Stiles/Allison take a stab at something different for you!

The challenges can be met with written words (min of 1,000) or graphic words (min 5 icons). OR in the spirit of rare pairs, you could work together with someone you've never worked with and give us something twice as nice!

As I like to think of myself as somewhat of a rare pair aficionado, this challenge is great for me. Especially with that definition of rare pairs being something rare for me rather than fandom - I'll have to think of some more rare ships I haven't written yet.

I do have a question, though: can the 1000 words be spread across multiple works, or just one fic of 1000+ words? Thanks!

I am working on a WIP that is a rare H50 pair (Steve/Adam) - not so rare for me as I've already written it once (although only ONCE), but I'm going to work on that, because I need to get more WIPs done. This is a sequel to the earlier fic, and there's more angst in store all around!

Rare pairs, yes! There are so many rare pairs that need more attention, and new pairs for me that I recently started to ship and haven't written anything for yet, so I am excited!

Arthur/Eames and Yusuf/Mal never crosses my mind.

Me too! But now thanks to fanfics, Arthur/Eames are one of my OTPs.

So hmmm... if it's rare to ME then it still counts? That opens the possibilities, I think. I don't write in many fandoms so I'll have to think on this a bit.

Also, at the grocery store on Saturday, my 15-year-old was talking about the last episode of the most recent season of The Vampire Diaries and how they killed off someone. My husband, not an outward shipper, didn't understand her angst and then the kid says, "THEY WERE MY OTP!" and I stumbled and walked right into the dairy case. HAH.

Mmmm, rare pairs... I'm tempted to do a crossover rare pair for H50/SGA. Or some stargate Rodney/AnyoneWhoIsn'tAJerkToHimInCanon. It's good timing for me, since I'm feeling cynical towards both of my usual OTPs at the moment, but end up being dragged back into them just to have something with my boys in it to read.

I will put this on my maybe list lol. so many of my pairs are major but if I can say "rare to ME", I could probly whip up some icons to share for pairs that I usually don't consider.

leaning towards Janeway/Paris in Voyager because back in the day, I used to make graphics for the biggest J/P site on the web. the owner humored the fact that I was a non-shipper but willing to contribute and even listed me as a member. we used to jokingly harass each other about our choice of ships...fun times XD

I agree with the other posters, I like your definition of rarepair! Too often do I see main pairs in rare fandoms being relegated to rarepair status, when the problem isn't actually the rarity of the pair but the rarity of the fandom.

Hmm... I'd prefer someone to hit me up with something in one of my fandoms, because if I don't normally think of it then... I wouldn't think of it? I'll list some big fandoms and the main ships I've seen around below:

- Teen Wolf (Sterek, anything hinted at in canon, everybody/Stiles)
- MCU (Clint/Coulson; I've also seen a lot of Steve/Bucky, Steve/Tony, Clint/Natasha, Phil/May, and canon-acknowledged pairs, etc. around so I wouldn't consider these as rarepairs either)
- Star Wars (Han/Leia, Poe/Finn/Rey, ObiAnaPadme, ObiQui, ObiSiri, QuiTahl, canon pairs)
- Bleach (I think pretty much everyone gets shipped with Ichigo, and most friends get shipped together)
- Any sports anime within the last decade; not gonna list them all here because it's likely that nobody knows about these anyway.

And yes, I'm aware of what I'm asking. The last time I challenged people to offer me rarepairs a friend suggested Bellatrix/Dementor. She regretted it when I handed the fic to her. Ah, sweet revenge.

I do love my rare pairs, but that may be the problem for me. Finding a rare pair isn't a problem at all, but finding one that's rare FOR ME to write in a fandom I write may be difficult. But it doesn't have to be both, does it? I'd love an excuse and inspiration to dip back into the Feeny/Eric pool! :-)

Speaking of which, here are some pairs for thought:

Boy Meets World: Feeny/Eric

Batman: Bruce(Bats)/Alfred, Alfred/Catwoman (I've actually read this done by one author before, and it was BEAUTIFUL!)

Charmed: Prue/Piper (Which I love, but I think any combination of the sisters might work for a rare pair.)

Harry Potter: (My own personal favorite) Severus Snape/Albus Dumbledore

Golden Girls: Blanche/Dorothy (My own personal favorite, but again, I think any combination of the girls might work.)

Hmm. I wonder if I could maybe handle a Phoebe/Prue pairing? I don't particularly like the thought of them as a couple myself, but I can definitely see Phebs lusting after Prue . . . and that being the real reason she stole so many of her boyfriends back in high school . . . . Hmm . . .

If anybody's having trouble coming up with a rare pair for a fandom in which I play, drop me a line. I definitely don't mind helping out.

My own personal 'rares' include Zed/Chas from Constantine...I write them but don't see much else out there.
My daughter and I have been bingeing Supernatural...we're in Season 7 I believe now. I've had her look for fics for me while she's looking for ones for herself, but there doesn't seem to be a lot that includes Balthazar and Gabriel...wouldn't mind a 3some with Cas, or throw in the Winchester boys too lol.
Game of Thrones...Jorah's written almost exclusively with Daenerys...but I'd love to see him in other pairs...even a drunken one with Tyrion (fave #2)
And back to my Buffy/Angel days...Spike and Lindsey McDonald, or Spike and Faith, always felt like they should be a thing.
