Word of the Day 4/17/13

Discrepancy (noun)
dis·crep·an·cy [dih-skrep-uhn-see]

noun
1. the state or quality of being discrepant; difference; inconsistency.
2. an instance of difference or inconsistency: There are certain discrepancies between the two versions of the story.

Synonyms
1. incongruity, disagreement, discordance, contrariety, variance. See difference. 2. variation.

Origin: 1615–25; < Latin discrepantia, equivalent to discrepant- (see discrepant) + -ia; see -ancy

Now YOU come up with a sentence (or fic? or graphic?) that best illustrates the word.

Steve stared at the screen then looked at Danny, Kono and Chin in turn. "This can't be right," he said. "We were just there. There wasn't anything. No contraband, no sign of activity, nobody around."

Everyone was stunned into silence.

"Okay, let's look at this logically," Danny said. The team set to work analyzing all the data from a fresh angle, digging in to the details.

"I've got it," Chin said with a grin a couple of hours later. He pulled up a record on the tech table and pointed out the discrepancies between what they'd thought had happened, and what had actually happened under the surface, unseen.

"Wow," said Kono. "I didn't see that coming."

"Me either," Danny said, frowning.

"Huh," Steve added. "Good job, Chin."

Nice snippet; sounds like a piece of a case exactly! ;-)

Thanks. Except I have no idea what the case is. And snippet is a misnomer because it's not snipped from anything.

Well, it's a nice moment - maybe your muses will one day provide the rest of the case. And words are not always precise, but it certainly looks like it could have come from something!
