Weekend Challenge - Potpourri

Welcome to my first weekend challenge.  For this week, we're going to do a little potpourri.

I need you to give me two numbers between 1 and 20.  For the first number, I'll give you photo.  For the second number, I put my iPod on shuffle and copied down the first 20 songs that came up and I'll give you one of them.  You can use the photo or the song or both together to write a fic (minimum 500 words) or create a graphic (minimum 3 icons, or a wallpaper, banner, etc).

If the song title or picture don't inspire your muses, let me know and you can pick different numbers.

For rewards, [livejournal.com profile] bluedelft has offered to create to create some fabulous graphics

Have fun and create!  :)

Fill: The cure

This was difficult, but I love a good challenge.
Fandom: X-Men, original characters
639 words

~~~~~
“I hope it kills you!” she shouted as she slammed the door behind her, the lights in the hallway flickering a few seconds before exploding, forcing her to walk the rest of the way in the darkness. She hated him, she really did, especially because she loved him. Daria knew why Jason wanted to take the cure, and if she was honest with herself, it might have been the right decision for him, as unlike her, his skin was not like any other.
She almost made it out of the building before she lost control over her tears. Having to hold onto the wall, she struggled to walk straight, her anger blinding her even further. He should have asked her, or at least told her before he went to get the cure. She hated him for his shallow need to look normal, to be normal; it was as if he was ashamed of who he was, of his gifts. Daria loved him, and she especially loved his turquoise skin and yellow glowing eyes. One thing that attracted her to him was that he wasn’t like the rest, he was confident; that was at least what she was made to believe.
He wouldn’t tell her how long he thought about seeking out the doctors who wanted to help the mutants, to change their lives to the better, and that hurt just as much as seeing his new face. No matter how many survived the procedure, Daria would never give up her powers, even if her exterior mutated until she wasn’t able to hide it; she loved who she was.
Of course, being a mutant wasn’t easy, especially not as she tried to stay low, to make a living as a normal human. It was funny how people reacted when they discovered her powers, it was as if being friends for months meant nothing. They chased her away, accused her of trying to steal their lives, to hurt them. The one thing that continued to surprise her was that some humans were afraid of catching whatever she had, as if it was an infection.
“Don’t you hate it when people are afraid of you, of your powers?” Jason asked her once after informing her of the cure.
“I do, but I don’t want to change, this is who I am.”
“Ordinary people change their looks all the time, trying to be better, why shouldn’t we have the same opportunity?” She knew then that the man she loved had secret thoughts, but she believed he wouldn’t do anything against her will.
Closing her eyes, she tried to remember how he looked like that morning, to remember every detail of his skin, of his eyes, and his smile. It was strange how much the small things mattered once they were gone, how much she missed him, even though he was still alive.
It’s not him, she told herself, knowing the man she saw when she went home after a long day at work was not her lover. She might not have noticed his personality change earlier, but once his exterior matched the man he wanted to be, she knew there was nothing she could do to bring him back.
Even though she hated Jason for what he had done, what he had become, she didn’t want him to die, even though her heart was broken.
Entering a dark and empty alley, she closed her eyes and thought about another city, feeling the power surge around her as her body sucked the electricity from the city. Once she had enough her body levitated above the ground, before the power exploded, sending sparks all around her, blinding anyone who might have seen her. Once the light calmed, there was nothing there, no trace of Daria.
Congrats on the words!
Reward - icons or a graphic of your fandom of choice. Only thing if it's not a fandom that I'm familiar with it would be helpful if you could provide some screencaps. I've found with google searches I always have such a hard time deciding.
Deciding is one of my weakest skills, so I'm happy I learned to expect little. I don't need any icons, but if you really want to then you can always take a look at my Ao3 (profile name is imera) and pick out any Fandom/Pairing you want, mostly only write those I like. Thank you :)
Finally working on the rewards and just took at look at your account over at Ao3 and the fandoms that you write for are ones that I'm not that familiar with.
Just need a few screencaps for one of your fandoms and I'll be happy to make a graphic for you. I've found with the google searches I just don't feel comfortable and guessing if I have the right characters or not.
I don't need any fandom specific graphic. What about making some winter related? or maybe Christmas?
Just added your reward to the entry I posted earlier today with the rest of the rewards. Tried doing something different than what I usually do.
This is so gorgeous, so well done. Beautiful and painful and true to the verse. YAY YOU!
