Now YOU come up with a sentence (or fic? or graphic?) that best illustrates the word.

Ficlet: Red Thread of Fate. (Steve/Danny ~160 words) Connected my 'Sanctuary...' Fic.

There are some cultures that believe in a 'red thread of fate'. Danny's never been one to buy into that. It was hard enough for him to come to terms with the fact that he could hear the thoughts of his family and friends. But he'd been living with that for as long as he can remember. So, no he doesn't buy into the 'Red Thread Theory'.

Until he has to secret his child away from everyone and everything they know and love. Because when that happens; when he finds the little church in the middle of nowhere Danny Williams starts having dreams. These dreams consist of a man coming to his little church looking for Sanctuary. But the interesting thing about this man is the thick red cuff he wears around his wrist. And the fact that Danny knows if he could see himself in these dreams, or visions; he would be wearing a matching red cuff on his own wrist.

It's either getting pistol-whipped in the head or the blood loss that's making him dizzy.

Red gushes like from a broken dam, turning his grey slacks dark. The damage is minimal, except he's sure the femoral artery gets nicked. His hands too numb to reach and press down. Nothing he can do except watching it pours from his leg.

It's fucking a hundred and four outdoor but he's shivering like January in Jersey without heat.

Steve would've heard the shot. He'd come investigate. He needs to.

Danny has mere minutes left and he hopes to - doesn't want to - say goodbye.

Doomed (Hawaii Five-0, PG, 100 words)

"What the hell was that?"

"It's called strategic allocation of manpower, Danny. Your strength in talking was best to distract the robbers while Chin and I went in SWAT. It worked well."

"This isn't the first robbery/hostage situation we've encountered, you need to come up with a better reason."

Steve stares at Danny's shirt and replies simply, "Have you seen what you're wearing?"

"I'm wearing a shirt and it's red. This isn't a bullfight. Those lowlifes won't go charging towards anything red."

"Exactly. You're wearing a redshirt."

"What the ever loving fuck, Steven? You can't be serious about that!"

Yup, that was a very nice red shirt reference, lol... funny. :). And you're probably right, Steve must have watched it as a kid. There is rank and order and people doing daring things with zero regard to safety, after all.

Oh, Danny!

(Steve gets there in time, right? Right?)

Proof of life (100 words)

[identity profile] azziria.livejournal.com 2013-02-17 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
There's blood, so much blood, it's everywhere, spattered wide across the walls and pooling dark on the floor, sticky red smearing the concrete where Steve had dragged himself inch by agonizing inch across the floor to Danny to shake him into consciousness and make him move, make him get up and get out and call for backup before the gunmen came back to finish what they'd started. So much blood, too much, and Danny drops to his knees and empties the contents of his stomach onto the bloody floor, because how much blood can one man lose and still live?

I was unlucky enough to see the aftermath of a knifing once, and the sight of the blood on the concrete has never really left me :(

Gabby - Hawaii Five-0 - Steve/Danny - 100 Words

[identity profile] mcgarrett.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
LATE, Part 4 in my Sports Bar AU!

=======

Gabby's bright red dress looks absolutely stunning.

If first impressions could kill, he'd be on the ground, blood seeping into the concrete.

He takes her hand and guides them to the reserved table, giving her a small nervous smile.

'You don't have to be nervous. She's a great gal.'

Steve's voice echos in his head, his level-headed comfort in matchmaking is frightening.

Gabby works at a local museum and is a total history buff.

Danny finds himself in the situation he feared before tonight.

He likes her.

Dessert is delicious, and they say their good-byes.

She promises to call.
